Take no notice of the nasties posting on here.
Thanks Horseunderwater.....I was just about to leave the group when I saw your posts and decided to stay on.
The earlier posters should be ashamed of themselves. For the majority of people, being ill, disabled, unemployed etc is something they would never have wanted or chosen. All of my experiences are a first for anyone in my family and we do not know our way around the system at all. Which is why I came here hoping for support and information and not to be abused by halfwits.0 -
You have every right not to reply and they have the right not to award the benefit. You don't like intrusive forms? Tough, I don't like paying £1,500 a year in council tax. I'll swap if you like.
And I don't like paying £2233.00 which is what it will be this next year.
My council voted to increase council tax.I am in receipt of council tax benefit. I am disabled.
I have just received a form to apply for this for 2013/14 which is far more detailed than last year and in particular is asking what I do with my DLA ....... and if I use it to pay for a Motability car they want to see all the paperwork.
What the heck has this got to do with the Council and what are my rights not to reply?
May be because the money you're claiming is tax payers money.0 -
You where jumped on pretty quickly....and I have seen that a lot on here, it's a shame really,as people do come here for advice and support, and it may make them leave...rather than get the help they need. It does say up the top about it when clicked on itDon't expect everyone to understand your journey, especially If they've never had to walk your path!!0

I will probably get one soon and although the questions seem intrusive I will answer any question they ask and send the proof they need, after all if I want the benefit I should do what it takes to get it.0

By claiming council tax benefit you are asking the state to intervene in your life (ie so you don't pay it or reduce it).
With that intervention comes questions about your financial affairs.
If you don't like the intervention, don't claim and the state won't intervene.
Simples.

How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?0 -
tbh, I don't know why your council is asking what you spend on DLA. I understand if DWP who assess DLA application asked it though. The council's task is to make sure that you are in receipt of DWP benefits and once that's confirmed by DWP, it shouldn't matter. If you are spending it on wrong thing, it should be DWP who will be questioning you, not council!0

Isn't it all going to come out of the same "pot" when Universal Credit comes in? Maybe they are just getting their ducks in a row in readiness for the big changes ahead.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

No CT is going to be separate - Hence why the council are asking.
Each council have their own way of assessing someones income or disposable income to pay. Eg my LA are discounting childcare paid (less any Tax Credits), so I imagine they will ask for the childcare provider and costs.
In the case of OP if she is for example paying £60 of £90 DLA to care, mobility etc they *may* be counting only £30 as disposable income.0 -
