intrusive questions on council tax form

Thanks Horseunderwater.....I was just about to leave the group when I saw your posts and decided to stay on.
The earlier posters should be ashamed of themselves. For the majority of people, being ill, disabled, unemployed etc is something they would never have wanted or chosen. All of my experiences are a first for anyone in my family and we do not know our way around the system at all. Which is why I came here hoping for support and information and not to be abused by halfwits.
I agree. Some compassion is needed here. I pay £2000 a year council tax and I am so thankful I am healthy enough to work. A friend of mine is paraplegic and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.
You are so right people in this country need help and support to fill out these forms. People from overseas come into the country and know everything to claim for.My secret fantasy is having 2 men....

Despite the ignorant posts of the usual suspects I'll put in my thoughts on the matter.
1- it has nothing to do with anyone, government, taxpayer, anyone what I or anyone else spends THEIR money on. Whether that be benefits, earnings, inheretance, gifts....
2- It seems to have gotten lost that DLA is not an assessable income. i.e. it is not to be included in a persons/households total income for the purpose of means testing.
Therefore the Council have no right to know how this money is spent.
They may enquire, by way of questions on the form, whether the condition each individual has would qualify them as a vulnerable person, based on the councils own criteria for vulnerability.
As for those ignorant people who resent paying for a pesons council tax or any other benefit. When it comes to disabled people, how many of you would swap your healthy life, ability to earn and wealth, for the DLA/benefits of a disabled person, and everything that comes with it (including the disabling condition)?[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

This is something I find puzzling. To claim disability benefits you need to give very personal details, even down to sex life (lack of it, toileting and hygiene needs), for example. This is acceptable, none intrusive, yet asking if they have a mobility car is intrusive.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0

Being able to describe care and mobility problems does have an effect on the benefit for DLA.
Would you answer questions about how often you masturbated, or what your favorite sexual position is in order to claim benefits? No you wouldn't because it has nothing to do with the benefit you are claiming.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

Because it has no effect on the benefit whether or not the person has a mobility car as DLA is not included as income in means tested benefits. It has no relevance to the benefit being claimed at all.

I'd happily answer those questions for £190 pm. I have been asked twice this week re my sexual preference and marital status.
We give out information all the time to a variety of agencies. My children's school ask for income, employers, how I travel to school, if I read a certain paper. I answer questionnaires at work not directly related to employment, including financial.
After giving birth and having cancer I have a much more relaxed view of privacy and the question asked was not intrusive at all. They didn't ask about hygiene, sexual nature or inside leg measurement. Mountain and molehill spring to mind.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0 -

You are wrong about DLA not being counted for CTB, it was ignored but with the changes its up to individual councils as to wether to ignore it or not and no doubt many councils will decide to count it their by "taxing" DLA payments.0 -

It's not ignorance. Not all disabled people are unable to work and many do have an ability to earn and in fact do earn a living whilst claiming DLA so do not tar disabled people by inferring all are on benefits and not earning there way thankyou.0 -
And with that post you demonstrate the what sort of person you really are.
What? That I have compassion for someone who is disabled ( paid tax & NI ) and is entitled to council tax benefit, as opposed to someone coming into this country for the benefits even though they have never paid tax & NI, and probably never will.My secret fantasy is having 2 men....
