Hi
Have just installed a new oil fired boiler and burner in my house. Is it more efficient to run it one hour on,then one off etc?

Depends if while it is running it gets the house up to required temp or not.
Running it constantly alternate hours (eg 12 hours per day) will of course use less fuel than running it constantly every hour (24 hours).
But if running it every hour, it reaches the required temp and the thermostat turns it off, then that may use less fuel (and keep you warmer!) than turning it completely off for an hour thus allowing the house temp to drop, so that when it comeson an hour later it has to work non-stop to get the temp back up!0 -
The longer it's on, the more it costs. Read any of the hundreds of other threads on this subject that are posted every winter. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Hopefully the installation has a room thermostat, a programmer and thermostatic radiator valves. Use these to manage the demand for heat.0
