Dell hard drive failing - replace or buy a new one?

  • Well the pc is now loading but very slowly saying instead windows is failing to load but eventually repairs itself....

spoke to my ex father in law yesterday who used to work in the pc industry (still a good friend!) and we went over lots of things and he thinks it might not be the hard drive but didn't manage to diagnose what was wrong so going to take it to him next week...in the meantime have bought a 1tb replacement external western digital hard drive to back up onto - I am also a food blogger and have a lot of stuff including photos on my pc that I cannot lose! in addition I have a large music and movie collection stored on my pc so need storage!

And so if it does turn out the hard drive going will definitely take on board everyone's advice, am so grateful for all your replies!

macman - is out of warranty unfortunately

  • Hello all!

In the end the pc refused to load anything, fortunately I did the back up just in time so saved basic stuff etc... friend replaced the hard drive and put data back on - however lost my 'office' and having to make do with an antiquated version but fortunately microsoft ran some updates and is bearable!

Only annoying thing have lost some of the dell drivers, and my multi touch gesture pad doesn't work anymore. Tried a couple of things but nothing successful thus far..

The missing drivers should be on the resource CD, if one was provided.
