If you're not happy with £1.50 plus 2.75% (eg at Halifax), then open a bank account elsewhere. Or change your money here before you go (and pay more!).

it was RBS this was almost ten years ago. i know they dont have to justify anything.

and actually i have seen ppl walk up to customer service desk and haggle the prices down and its now common with the comparrison machines in sainsburys to do the comparison for you.

i know at the time i should have relised and changed accounts but easy said than done when your stuck in a foreign countrey for several years and this was before the time of being able to check your account online.

Of course you can try to claim these fees back. Just send your complaint to your card issuer, sit back and await their reply.
