Will it bring down the value of your property?

I doubt it. In today's world when fear of crime is prevalent, many would find it very reassuring.

I can empathise that your personal preference was to purchase a house w/out one in such close proximity to a street light, but did that same light have an effect on the sellers price?

In my last house, I had a bus stop erected right outside after I had moved in - my knee jerk reaction was ... grrrrrrr!!! Actually, it soon became an advantage and didn't cause any of the problems I had imagined it would.
