Street light outside my window

when pulling onto my drive the other day i noticed a yellow circle drawn onto pavement outside my house, wondered what it was but then forgot about it
today came home to an envelope through my door from Aurora Streetlighting.
they are renewing all the streetlighting in the city. locations of the new lights will be identified by a yellow circle !!!
this yellow circle is slap bang outside my house, right next to my bedroom window
am gutted !
when i was looking to buy a house, i decided against an otherwise perfect house cos it had a streetlamp directly outside
this is going to bring down the value of my house surely ?

Not necessarily, I have one outside my bedroom window. The neighbours think it's great as it keeps the car thieves away. We had to buy extra thick curtains though to keep the light out during the night though!
It was quite annoying recently, the light started flickering and it was hard to sleep, took the Council 6 weeks to fix it.
You could always buy some yellow paint, scrub the circle, and move it somewhere else. They won't notice - seriously!0 -
HI Sunflower, I also have a streetlight outside my bedroom window & I don't notice it anymore. I haven't even bothered with blackout blinds but you could if the light troubles you. To be honest it's actually a comfort from the security point of view, have to say I didn't even notice it when I moved in but then again I was young & naive ;o)0

I have a street light outside my kids' bedroom and I put up a black out blind and curtains with black out linings on. Our bodies respond to darkness by producing melatonin which induces sleep. In order to get a good night's sleep it is better that your bedroom is pitch black when the door is closed. Also helps with getting babies/kids to sleep too. If it's too bright then it's also worth investing in an air rifle.0

Our last house was like this and didn't cause any problems - that's what curtains are for! If you don't usually close your curtains at night, could you swap bedrooms?0

I get the added bonus of a street light plus motor vehicle heading towards my house before straighing up on the street due to traffic claming (buildouts like mini chicanes).

I have two street lights outside my house, as I am on the corner, I have one in front of my bedroom window, and one at the side of my house... I am pleased they are there, as it is good for a deterrant for burglars, as my neighbours can see anyone if they look out.
This along with a burglar alarm makes me feel safer.
Plus with the light from the one in my bedroom, which isn't that bright, if I need to use the loo in the middle of the night, i don't have to put the light on - Bonus !!!

When we bought our new house we didn't have any street lighting. Eventually one was put up right outside our bedroom window. Although I wasen't keen at first, it's been great! I can see to put my key in the front door on dark nights, and if I leave a bit of curtain open can see enough to go to the loo with out disturbing any one by putting the light on. I have to say that I also feel more secure than our neighbour's whose houses are in the dark.
I'm sure once you get used to it you won't mind, and I carn't see how it would effect the value of your house. Now thanks to Tommix & Queen Bear, now Lady Westy of Woodpecker0 -

You get six months in Manchester Prison for firing an air rifle into the pavement !
A streetlight must be 12 months by that reckoning.
And then you have to go on a serious diet.

I had one on the same level with the bedroom window, spoke to council and they came and painted the back half of the light black which helped difuse the amount of light coming into the window.0
