You say she is bouncy, then added later you didn't want her to destroy your home.

So is it that she is just bouncy or is she being destructive?

Having lived with various labs over the years, the bounciness never really stops (even though it seems to happen less often as they get older) and even when you think they are totally mature they will have what my mother calls "mad half hours" when you normally beautifully behaved dog will just go well..... mental!

If she is being destructive then there are certain things you can do to train her out of it.

I sort of understand why you have gotten defensive about being questioned on how you look after a much loved pet it but the questions about diet and exercise were asked as normally a slight change in either can result in a totally different dog.

There are a lot of very experienced people on this board, you asked for advice, they just need all the facts to help answer.

With regards to your other dog being on the same food... well think of kids one might go nuts after orange squash but another has no ill effects. Dogs are the same, one size doesn't fit all.

Sooooo if you really want some help with your dogs and without feeling like your getting called a bad "mum" then perhaps it might be worth taking a deep breath and answering the food and exercise questions. who knows you might just get some help which will solve the issues in a few weeks, isn't that worth it?
  • sacasim because you are getting annoyed when anyone suggests that the food maybe a contributing factor, or that he reqs more exercise than he is presently getting, every breed of dog req different things & labs are normally very active dogs at that age & because you bring him back from a walk & he starts jumping around all over the place says to me he isn't getting enough exercise or is hyper due to the food he is eating.

no one is suggesting you aren't looking after him just that you may need to look at his food or his exercise programme
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.
  • i have a 4.5 year old lab who was a nightmare at around 9 months to 1.5 years, jumping on folk and same no recall. for me puppy class helped with walking on lead (as did halti for a while) good treats for practising recall (cheese and sausage) and even now at this age i go to dog socialisation class - for my dog the more he was in company of other dogs the less he felt the need to run off miles for the random dog miles away. Mental stimulation good too - teaching them commands/tricks
How people treat you is their Karma: how you react is yours

Ano5her factor to consider is what sort of lines did she come from - working or show?
Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.

That is quite relevant. My whippet/lab cross had parents that were both working dogs so no small furry creature is safe around him despite my best efforts. If I let him off lead in the countryside he will DEFINITELY come back within five minutes and present me with a rabbit...!
  • isn't your OH getting fed up with rabbit stew 5 times a week :D
