In my case, my OH knows what to do with the money so I am not concerned.

and we would never get that advanced in age w/o getting POAs sorted Before there were any problems.

I just think some people attitudes about the OP are downright rude.

My eldest is 22, and hasn't actually asked me for the remainder of his money but he could if he wanted to. I just haven't gotten around to putting it in his sole name yet, but it on the agenda for before the end of the tax year.

horrible thought - - but a POA might be required for reasons other than old age

indeed. but most everything is joint, so the OH or I would have time to get it sorted. We plan POAs just before we retire (not after).

We are already covered for medical decisions and know each others wishes and preferences. For instance, although I was raised as Catholic I have already said he can choose cremation (to save funeral costs). Burials get very expensive.

    raised as Catholic

No problem with the cremation! http://www.scattering-ashes.co.uk/different-cultures/the-catholic-church-cremation-cremated-remains-and-scattering-ashes/

Burials get very expensive. Indeed, as do cremations.
I suppose one could always consider a prepaid funeral plan - I used to visit my old French teacher (before her death in her 99th year) - she used to say that she was pleased that "it was all arranged and paid for" - she was a single lady and specifically wished to be interred in the same grave as her late twin.

I was thinking of accidents, and other horrid things like strokes and heart attacks that know no age and can put a sudden stop to your ability to manage your own affairs

DH and I have opted for 'green burials' in a wildflower cemetery. It's very close to the battlefield of Ashingdon, a lovely place to be.

perhaps the account is Grandad's idea for leaving money to the OP in a will.
Hence why Granny says it doesn't exist.

Glad it's not just me! I'm constantly amazed/confused/annoyed by people who post queries on this board, receive tons of useful, well-meant, expert advice but then never reappear, never thank anyone, never answer questions raised etc.

    Oh well...

given the way the OP was trashed by a few, I am not surprised they are not back
