  • :rotfl: giggle juice! We call it "mummy juice" here ;)

So sorry your laptop has gone to the big computer workshop in the sky but look how MSE you're being to acquire the replacement :T Any chance you can sell what is left of it for parts on ebay to reduce the cost? People really will buy ANYTHING

    Kate x

To be fair it's about 7 years old so most of the parts are outdated, and it's showing signs of heavy use (keys missing on the keyboard, the battery's badged, the case is cracked on one of the corners)... I'm surprised it lived as long as it did to be fair! I might chuck the motherboard on there as a £20 buy it now which might come in useful for someone who wants to strip it for parts...

I've actually been looking at reconditioned laptops to see if I can get one for an even lower price, trouble is a lot of the stuff out there is vastly outdated at the moment, although there are one or two popping up which are worth a look, Lenovo are looking good value for money and I have a friend who works at HP and can get me a friends and family discount.

    Hi PbP

Not sure if too late for you, but I work in an FE college and they offer free computer repairs etc- as 'work experience' for their students... Also for any of you interested - cheap beauty treatments, hairdressers (not always dodgy lol), massage, etc ..if looking for MSE tips:)

    Hi Sarah,

I wish that thought had crossed my mind! I didn't even think about that to be fair. It might be a bit too late for my laptop though, taking a look at the motherboard again I think I've proper butchered the terminals on it, I doubt they could get it working again even if they managed to get the connection soldered :(

Note to self - don't think man when you pick up a soldering iron - always read a guide first!

I like the idea of a s*d it weekend. I have this bank holiday weekend booked off work after I did the last 2, and my budget's reigned back in under control so I might be cheeky and raid the bargain bin at my newsagents for a few cans of giggle juice...

Letters from NatWest (spit) and capital one received. The former noting I hadn't made payment to my CC and the latter saying the same. Wrote letters to both stating DMP details (had to hand write then as my printer's run out of ink - typical! Ah well, they'll have fun reading my drunk spider writing) and forwarded all documents to DMP as well, with photocopies stashed away.

Not such good news on the laptop front - turns out I can't solder :( drove around for 5 hours last Thursday to see if somewhere could do it, no-one was interested except for one gammy looking shop in a not too pleasant place and he wanted £70 to do it, the old me would have coughed up just to get it done, but I took it home and gave it a go.... Big mistake! The motherboards now a bit.... Melty.

So new laptop for me then, and the bargain hunting begins - thankfully my birthday's in June and my parents have offered to chip in for a new one, so at least I won't be paying full whack!!!

Try student computers they do a lot of open box, graded and refurbed laptops etc I've had several things from them over the last 5 years and have found them very good and c^rrys etc have a refurbed section too. Also once you're sorted eb@y the old one someone will buy even if only for the charger and battery I got £40 for two totally knackered and rather broken laptops a couple of years ago just advertise as "not working" and see what happens! Good luck it often feels like one step forward and then some b*****d comes and pulls the rug 2+ steps back ;)

    Good luck

Just reading all the press articles about feeding a family for £80 a week, I think a lot of us on here would love to have that amount each week.....

We manage on £50 a week by planning meals and not throwing anything away. The lovely Daily Mail is suggesting £6.50 is a good price for a chicken - from Harrods maybe!!

    Sorry rant over....
    Debts as of June 2012 - £68,986.35

  • Hi all, I posted a month or so ago that I had applied to step change and I'm only now preparing the letter to send to everyone :o I have missed one payment on all of my debts and need to get a wiggle on!

I have 5 non priority debts and arrears on my electricity so StepChange have budgeted only £25 pm between the five creditors until my arrears are cleared (about six months). I have used their template letter but don't know whether I should be sending each a £5 token minimum for now whilst the arrears are cleared, or splitting that £25 depending on how much I owe them?

If it helps, the figures are £7500ish credit card, £2500 credit card, £1600 credit card, £1600 overdraft and £500 overdraft (I can't give precise figures as my son is on my phone with all my banking apps!)

    Hi

I'm in a similar position to you, in process of setting up SC agreement. I sent a token payment of £10 to m&S cc, debt about £4k. It was late and they phoned me - lady was very kind and offered to me 'oh, a token payment, that's fine' - she didn't quibble about the amount - and happily acknowledged it is until payment plan is set up. I believe others on the forum have sent £1 token payments.

    Good luck with the DMP:)
