DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 9

Morning folks!
Hope everyone is well and geared up for a glorious long weekend!!!! Personally I'm "technically" on Christmas holidays (LOL *sob*) but hasn't this year gone fast????
TTFtM - £58k!!!! WOW!!! I'm impressed, I think I'd need to sell my soul to even get close to that so if anyone has the devils number please pass it on
PbP - have to echo the advice which has been given already, I know it sounds a bit scary to rock the boat with your provider but by going free then you'll obviously be reducing the time it takes to become debt free so take the plunge and keep posting on here for support which this lovely lot is happy to offer for a big fat zero, zip, zilch!!! The other thing to remember is that you still need to have an element of management of your debts (keeping accurate balances and the like) to stop it getting away from you and it'll make you feel empowered and hopefully less likely to stumble again after it's all done and dusted.

Hi MB nice to have you back! You mentioned the dreaded 'C' word in May.:eek: I don't want to think about that until at least December and yes this year is going very quickly. Have a great weekend!DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

I'll keep updates going, partly for other people's interest and partly as a way of recording it myself!
Hi PBP, I agree with TTFTM, Puzz and MB. These companies make promises but I don't think they provide a service that is any better than the free providers. Put all that hard earned cash into paying off your debt.carlislelass wrote: »Don`t know if I`m on the right bit but we became DEBT FREE!!!today. It`s been a long, hard slog with many tears
Congratulations, you must feel on top of the world. I know I will when I'm eventually debt free!...you rock TTFTM...x

LOL if it helps I was referring to LAST years one... (see how I avoided the 'C' word there?)

Evening all,
Quick question... I don't know if it will be of any benefit at all but was wondering if I should lower the credit limits on the credit cards which I'm repaying through my DMP?
For example, when I entered into my DMP I owed £2,000 on my Barclaycard and it's now down to £1,700 so should I reduce my limit to say £1,750 (to allow for interest)? Would it benefit me in any way? Or would it be a waste of time (or worse be detrimental)?
It's not like I'm going to be using it again so...

Sorry don't really know if it would be of benefit or not. Halifax are constantly dropping my over draft limit in line with what we still owe. As you won't be able to use any credit I don't think it will make much difference. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon and talk some sense.:)DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

To sound like the echo in the room you rock! And thank you so much to you and everyone that's wished me well.
All went as planned (although took a little longer than scheduled) hurts like [insert expletives of choice here] but I'm home and it was better than I expected it to be (isn't everything we dread?) Surgeon saw me after and said it was the easiest op of this kind he's done in 20 YEARS despite there being so much metal to removeI even had an easier time with the anaesthetic than I was expecting and I was lucky enough to be the first general anaesthetic of the day and sat up eating toast by 1pm
Having a bit of a battle with pain relief as after a year on Px painkillers I've built up a tolerance but it's mostly bearable. Family are being fantastic and it's really not been as bad a birthday as I thought it'd be (and I won't be hungover tomorrow)
And it's certainly taken my mind off the debt all dayI will be reading when I canbut iI've got a rough few days ahead so may not post much but wanted you to know I'm okay as you've been wonderfully supportive on this as well as the debt.

I would have thought that the very act of going into a dmp and defaulting on the credit cards would have closed them so no credit limit as such to lower? I know my statements still show a limit but I can't imagine any of them actually allowing/expecting me to use it, especially as the majority request the card be returned during set up.Christmas 2020 £109

Hi Growurown & Puzz,
Well this is the thing...
Both my Vanquis and Barclaycard shows up on my credit report as being up to date although has been getting marked as AR since the start of the DMP and my online account and statements still refer to me having available funds (not that I'd ever try to use it as I've cut the card up anyway)?
I have contacted both and asked for the cards to be defaulted (as per my Cap One) and am just awaiting a reply
At the moment I have nothing but time on my hands so I don't mind calling them and wasting a bit of their time LOL but if it is possible to reduce the limit but it will have a negative impact then I'd rather now...
