:hello: Just wanted to say welcome to all the new DMPers coming on board. You are most definitely in the right place to ease the trauma of starting a DMP.

Boiler is now fixed and we are soooo pleased to be warm again! Cost £50 so not as bad as I had thought initially. I wonder what the next thing to break down will be? I hope that car of mine isn't getting any ideas..........

    Phew that's a relief.

Welcome to the newbies too :)

Hello 2spicy, it's really good to see you :hello:

That signature is looking amazing, the light at the end of the tunnel must be burning brightly now :T

I can't wait until the 21st aka OH's payday when we are hoping to see our debt go into the £20 thousands :j

Same here .... Should break the £20k mark on March 10th.
OH's company car goes back next year (end of lease), and our second car is on its last legs, so were looking forward to getting 2x new cars that will be reliable and heap to run / insure then focus on the last 12 months of the DMP.

Its been a long journey and one we dont intend to repeat.. its not over yet, but now it doesnt look so bad.

  • Hi all I just wanted to ask for advice, SC are taking the first DMP payment on the 1st of march, but I have received a statement from Barclaycard wanting payment by the 8th of march, they have stopped intrest and charges but wondered do I have to pay the payment to them cause they won't receive the payment from SC until the end of march, do I make the extra payment or not?

    Thanks Beans x

    Hi,

I am also starting my DMP in March and had the same problem. I asked Step Change whether I need to make a token payment still in March but they said no. They advised that I write to all my creditors explaining that the plan was set up, giving my ref number and to explain that payment would be made by the 25th or just after and could they change the payment due date to correspond. So I have done this and posted all my letters yesterday. Hope this helps

I paid all mine a pound every 28 days during set up. I also asked bc to move the due date which they did with no problems and interest been frozen since set up.

just a heads up for anyone with a debt with Aqua and how they have panned out for me / how they seem to work...

They were awful about reducing or stopping interest despite repeated letters / phone calls requesting they do so - eventually after 12 weeks they dropped the rate by a measly 1% which kicked me into action going to FOS

about 8 weeks later I had all interest that had been charged reversed then another couple of weeks later all the fees that had been added were reimbursed in the way of a cheque - at the same time it was handed to a DCA - 1st Credit - who froze all interest moving forward.

4 months later the DCA have contacted me out of the blue offering 2 different settlement amounts on different terms - or that I can just carry on paying as I am.. 30% to 50% which is a good start - may start negotiations with them if I'm in a position and mood to do so.

I think the point I'm trying to make is - fight them all the way regarding interest and fees - they are bullies and are by far the worst company I have had to deal with thru all of this. Getting passed to a DCA is a silver lining - fresh people to deal with and tbh they haven't caused any stress at all....

now to juggle things to try to find the money to be able to do that settlement with them...

for what its worth I hope that helps a bit :)
  • Hello helpful people,

I don't think I've posted in this thread before, but I have in the debt-free forum. So a quick summary: OH has been on a DMP (with a fee paying company) since 2010 for 3 debts (2 credit cards & 1 overdraft). We finally sent out the letters required to change his DMP to a self-managed one through NEDCAB on Tues 4th Feb (letter to DMP company cancelling & to each creditor informing them the management of the DMP was changing and asking for up to date balances & payment info) .

Yesterday he got the first response. It's from Moorgate Loans Servicing (his smallest creditor-around £750 still owed) and all it says is 'Upon receipt of this letter it is essential that you contact me on the above number.' OH is not willing to speak to the debt companies on the phone-he had quite a lot of issues with doorstop collectors, constant phone calls & the usual threats etc during the early stages of setting up the original DMP & his fear of having to deal with that again is a big part of why it has taken so long for him to move away from the fee-charging DMP. He doesn't want the companies to have his phone number and he wants all communication on paper so there are proper records. So basically after advice on what to put in the next letter & whether he can insist communication is by letter only?

    Thanks

Hi all and welcome to all the new DMPers :)

I've been off the boards for a long time, but still plodding on with the DMP. As you can see from my signature things are moving along reasonably well. The only creditor who is refusing to play 'nice' is Halifax and I'm still battling to get them to stop charging interest. But i shall persevere.

It's been a tough few months... my sister was diagnosed with the dreaded 'C'. It's a rare type and she has had two major operations already; with a further one planned for later in the year (to remove more tumours). Its a case of taking it one day at a time and I have to admit has taken its toll on my mental state somewhat.

Anyway. Its a new year and I must catch up with the DMP thread and see how everyone is getting on :)
