livingindreamland wrote: »Very new to all this, my first payment went to Stepchange yesterday, so I still have no idea who has accepted my DMP yet. Silly question, but If I find myself with a few extra pounds at the end of the month, is it OK to use it to pay off a bit of one of the debts? (As you can probably guess I'm not sleeping well hence posting at 5:30 in the morning)
Hi and welcome livingindreamland :hello:
Tough question about the extra payment, I always did/still do and it's never caused me any problems. But it's not really the done thing and Stepchange don't like it as they see it not being fair to all creditors. I say when creditors are fair to me, I will be fair back!
I remember that not sleeping feeling. Give it a month or so and you will find yourself sleeping ..... and smiling .... and laughing .... and living again. A DMP works wonders for all of those.

Happy New Year DMP's ... Sorry weve been quiet recently ... its been a rollercoaster over the last few months, and weve hit some un-expected financial challenges, but were though and steaming onto what we hope will be the home run to debt freedom, a new car and a well needed family holiday somewhere HOT !!

Just wondering?
Logged onto MBNA to check current owed total and it says, no account exist with that username...glitch or they've passed it on to a DCA? Did issue default notice a while agoDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

had the same from them when it had been passed to DCA and could not talk with me regarding my account anymore etc etc - nothing really changed TBH - DC get the same amount that MBNA were and balance reducing as all interest frozen in time. Also had a letter from DCA after 2 or 3 months saying they were 'open for offers' which unfortunately I cant do anything about as don't have enough to make an offer to clear it.
good luck with it0 -
Hi all
I'm a newbie
Just had phone call with pay plan, am going with a dmp after recently being scammed out of a load of money and also dropping hours at work due to health reasons.
I've got total of 9 creditors with a total of £5500 worth of debt and they've offered me a dmp with a repayment of £100.
I must admit I am quite relieved, but will be happier when the whole thing is set up and running.DMP About to start FEB 14 Lending stream=£300/Paydayuk=£324/Poundstopocket=£618/Quickquid=£618/AQUA=£1331/Swift=£259/Sunny=£172/Vanquis=140 and Wonga=£1592
Repayment £100.48
Damn these payday loan companies but all glories to getting out of this mess :rotfl:0 -
Think I will be joining the DMP gang shortly. Due to some unforseen circumstances I find myself in about £4,000 worth of debt to PDL companies.
Filled out the checklist with StepPlan (Who I found to be excellent help) and have just sent this onto my creditors.
I am a tad worried they will send me letters at home or even worse to my work. Hopefully not though.
Looking forward to clearing out this debt though, should be free of it at the beginning of December :T0 -
hello folks
Just a quick question - at the moment Mr BR and I are not actually married - if we were to become so, what will happen to his dmp and creditors, will I become liable too?Our LBM: Dec 2011. DMP started: Jan 2012. Debt at LBM: £41,568
Oct 2012 = Current debt: £40,548.93
Oct 2013 = Current debt: £39.054.70

Many thanks - my debts similar to yours and in same position re f&f - however they were charging me interest so hopefully at least that'll stop !Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.

Hi Fortune teller, welcome to the forums & well done for making a start at sorting out debts. Does take a while to get DMP going usually so it can be a roller-coaster start but then should smooth out for an easier ride. Sounds like you will be in DMP for about 5 years or so, this seems to be average length although there are some much longer term DMPers on here.
Have a goood read back through some pages so you know what to expect, most Faqs have been answered at some stage.InvernessIron wrote: »Think I will be joining the DMP gang shortly. Due to some unforseen circumstances I find myself in about £4,000 worth of debt to PDL companies.

Hi InvernessIron
Welcome aboard too, by letters, do you mean creditors ? do they have your work address ?? Suggest you write to creditors & explain all communication should be in writing to xxx address (home unless you have some pressing reason why not). You have to play the game though & respond if they do contact you at your preferred address or they will be after you at work.
My 'just in case' plan is to tell people at work either the truth if you prefer, or ' I've been having trouble with a PDL company after a friend of a friend used me as a guarantor' or some other such tale. Ok as long as you have a good memory and can stick to the story, less complicated is best:)BlushingRose wrote: »hello folks

Hi BR - I think its the same married or not, the debt is only yours if it was/is a joint account. His DMP shouldnt be affected, although if you then have joint finances there may be questions about how much expenses are his and yours - and your contriubtions, however, will the creditors know if you marry?don't expect he will be ringing them up to change names?
This is only my uniformed opinion and others may have better advice
Thanks for asking the question, its a good thing to find outDebt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.
