If they are left with just someone popping in at lunchtime now i would suspect they will be ok, i'd try it and see what happens, its amazing how well they adapt, all i would say is be prepared to come home to the odd accident, after all we can't hold on that long

Would suggest you manage this work around as around here the dog walkers charge £10-£12 a visit:eek:. I can't see how a DMP provider would sign this one off, unless you can squirrel the charge away in other categories..

    Hi Amy and welcome,

I also had a loan and od with the bank and can confirm that they did take the loan payment which led to me going over my overdraft but both these went into the dmp so ended up similar debt amounts if you see what I mean. Can you withdraw all your wages when they are paid in so you are not left with no pennies? How close are you to sorting new account/swapping dd's etc?
Token payments, I sent a £1 to each advising of dmp, ref number, please freeze interest etc. I sent mine to the address on the statements, and googled those I didn't have. They all ended up in the right place! I just sent a cheque from my new bank account, I knew they received it because they cashed the cheque! Others do postal orders and then send recorded.
Good luck on your journey, it does get easier and we are all here to help!
    Love Puzz

Hey Puzz, thanks for replying. Yeah I'm doing good on the bank change, so far I have my new card and pin and most direct debits due to shift on the 11th Feb. Just really a waiting game until I have that quiet period lol! I have requested a cheque book but can take some time to get this apparently. I will send postal order until cheque book comes. Loan and O/D fees not due now until end of feb so will hopefully just be one month missed payments so shouldn't get me in a whole lot deeper lol!

I will no doubt be back with a lot more questions over the coming weeks so hope u all don't mind me joining you xxx

Afternoon folks. I have another doggy question. Does anyone work full time and have dog/s that are left on their own all day? Currently my neighbour pops in at lunch times to let our dogs out but he is moving soon. We live out in the sticks so no other neighbours close by to help out, but my OH is getting really stressed by the thought that the dogs will be left home alone. He is talking about paying someone to come in, along the lines of a professional dog walker. This is going to be very difficult to do on a DMP. Our dogs aren't young, would it be OK to leave them all day do you think? I leave for work at 8.30am and I am home by 5.30pm. I really don't want to pay anyone to come in if I don't have to.

    Hi
Our 9 year old Labrador is on his own from 1pm until I get home at 6 or from 7am - 3pm dependant on husbands shifts. He is fine, I worry about him but I think he sleeps most of the time! We walk him before we leave him and again when we get home and he is happy. He has never had an accident in the house, I think people worry unnecessarily sometimes.
  • I have a five year old king charles and sometimes when I am on holiday from work during the week, I swear he is happier when he left on his own. I think that they get used to it and mine gets upset at having his routine disrupted. He is very lazy anyway!!

Thanks for the dog advice everyone. I think paying someone to come in to walk the dogs is too expensive personally and it's not as though we live in an easy place to get to either. It never used to be a problem until my company closed the office I worked in and I had to move to another location. I'd pop home in my lunch hour but now it is a 30 minute drive to work and OH even suggested I could still drive home lunchtimes!! I told him not to be so bl00dy ridiculous!

Any chance you and OH could change hours so one starts earlier other finishes later this would reduce the amount of alone time?

What we did was get our dog used to using Kongs stuffed with food. But we did start this off when she was a puppy (Yorkie). I'm out the house 7.30 - 6, my wife does shift work, so irregular but something like 2 days a week left on own for full working day.

I think as started off as pup easier, and with your two they might set each other off but nothing you can do about that. at first she didn't understand the kongs but because we feed her morning meal in them rather than using a bowl she quickly got the hang of it and gave her a 'project'. Now when we go out in the morning she get's really excited just before we leave, as if to say "don't forget about my kongs!". We have a webcam which we can look in on and after working on her kongs she settles down in her bed and doesn't really stir until the times she is used to us getting home. No accidents touch wood.

There was a good programme on telly recently 'Secret Life of Dogs' (http://www.channel4.com/programmes/dogs-their-secret-lives/4od) and one owner was being taught how to use kongs with a full-sized dog.

Yes I have got some flexibility in my hours and actually OH is lucky enough to have a job where he can work from home some of the time so we can minimise time they are alone.

Good advice! Our oldest dog is ten now but I remember the trainer at puppy classes used to do this because her dog was left home alone a lot. She used to fill the kongs and put them in the freezer overnight to make them last longer and give the dog more of a challenge!

Our oldest dog is ten now and the other dog is a couple of years younger so neither are spring chickens any more. If they were young with more energy I would be more concerned. Lots of my work colleagues leave their dogs alone all day. I think OH is worrying unnecessarily tbh especially as he can be home more often that the regular 9 to 5 job that many people have.

Woohoo! I am celebrating! Just had a call from Halifax to say after our complaint to the FOS they are refunding all interest and charges for the last year amounting to £1,131.46

We don't see the cash obviously it will come off our balance, but it has reduced the outstanding debt by 25% approximately.

Ooh I think I deserve a celebratory beer tonight

That's brilliant news! I know how chuffed I felt when Lloyds refunded half that amount :T:T Have a beer for me too ;)
