In other news, I am very proud of my 'yellow sticker' haul today. Enough to do dinners for the family (2 adults and 2 teens) for a week 'meat-wise' for less than a tenner! Just veg and carbs to get.

Me too, I love getting a yellow sticker bargain. Today I got a pack of brussel sprouts for 9p.:rotfl:

Good tips on the meds - thanks everyone. Doggy is ten this year and his joints are suffering from a bit of wear and tear, so hopefully with some rest and anti inflammatories that will clear the problem up, although it may flare up again so we shall see.

Larac - I found SC's allowance for pet insurance a little low too. I have two dogs so I used the allowance for dry cleaning (which we rarely use) to top up the amount.

    Morning

Sorry to hear about the pooch, hope things get better soon. do you know you can increase SC allowance, you just have to justify the variance.

    Hi all

Welcome to newbies, January is certainly a busy month.
If you are feeling down, please take heart, yes I know you feel like a massive idiot/fool/failure but you know lots of people make mistakes, it's just ours have been with finances. It may or may not have been something we could have avoided, sometimes circumstances create pathways that are are difficult to negotiate.

If you have made a start at solving your debt issues, no matter how long or short the time, how large or small the debt, GOOD FOR YOU - now is the time to learn how to get t o a better place and create a better life eventually, it'll just take a bit of time and learning.

MSE is a great resource and the DFW forums are full of folk how have been or are still in the same place, so YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
Come back here if like gets a bit Carpie, we'll listen and not judge. It probably took a while to get here, give yourself time to get to your better place.
Debt -it's a fight that I'm winning, dealing with debt one day at a time.
    Estimated DFD August 2018 - 2031 - now 2027 :T

I have been told to use turmeric for Arthritis (SP) 1 teaspoon mixed with a bit of olive oil to make a paste with a couple of twists of ground pepper, dissolve in a little warm water and pour over food, with 5 dogs i am always looking for alternatives, i also use natural alternatives for flea and worm treatment, and my dogs are rarely at the vets.

My DMP allows me £100 for them and this has never been queried by my creditors, when i did the original debt remedy i just explained this to the online advisor when it wouldn't submit.
LBM 2 and the OH is onboard sept 12, DMP will start on the 1st November, DFD who cares as longs as it comes:)

  • Congratulations to both of you, I love inspiring debt free stories :T

Hope you have both added your names to the debt free roll of honour :j

Oh yes, it was the third thing I did, after yelling out loud and jumping up and down, and then phoning my daughter (who pushed me into doing an DMP, and who is also now debt-free) to celebrate

Thank you for your kind words, and I hope I have inspired you even more! ;)
I incurred the debt, I repaid the debt - all of it!:o DMP started with CCCS 20/07/2007 Was £32,735. Paid off all my creditors (June 2013) 7 yrs ahead of original DFD.

Afternoon folks. I have another doggy question. Does anyone work full time and have dog/s that are left on their own all day? Currently my neighbour pops in at lunch times to let our dogs out but he is moving soon. We live out in the sticks so no other neighbours close by to help out, but my OH is getting really stressed by the thought that the dogs will be left home alone. He is talking about paying someone to come in, along the lines of a professional dog walker. This is going to be very difficult to do on a DMP. Our dogs aren't young, would it be OK to leave them all day do you think? I leave for work at 8.30am and I am home by 5.30pm. I really don't want to pay anyone to come in if I don't have to.

If they are left with just someone popping in at lunchtime now i would suspect they will be ok, i'd try it and see what happens, its amazing how well they adapt, all i would say is be prepared to come home to the odd accident, after all we can't hold on that long

    Hey everyone!
Been reading these threads for about a month now so feeling more informed and prepared for what is to come than I otherwise would have been so Thankyou to you all!!

I have done the budget on SC and I have asked for a pack to be sent out to get the ball rolling.

I have 3 companies I owe money too and I have already sent a letter to two of them making them aware I will be entering a dmp soon.
My finances don't change until March but I'm hoping to have my plan pretty much set up by then.

I'm just after a bit of advice really, I have an overdraft and a loan with TSB who are currently my bank aswell. I haven't yet informed them of the change as I'm waiting for new bank account to be set up.
I will call them when the time comes to make them aware and I will also put it in writing. I'm going to cancel the direct debit for the loan but will they still put it through anyway? If so they will then put me overdrawn and in a bigger mess. Also my monthly overdraft fees will do the same thing. Are they likely to stop these?

I haven't yet missed any payments although for the month of feb all my debts will only receive a token payment while I stockpile what cash I can lol! Any advice on how to make these token payments? And where would I send them too?

Sorry for the long post just bloody terrified of what will happen over the next few months!

    Hi Amy and welcome,

I also had a loan and od with the bank and can confirm that they did take the loan payment which led to me going over my overdraft but both these went into the dmp so ended up similar debt amounts if you see what I mean. Can you withdraw all your wages when they are paid in so you are not left with no pennies? How close are you to sorting new account/swapping dd's etc?
Token payments, I sent a £1 to each advising of dmp, ref number, please freeze interest etc. I sent mine to the address on the statements, and googled those I didn't have. They all ended up in the right place! I just sent a cheque from my new bank account, I knew they received it because they cashed the cheque! Others do postal orders and then send recorded.
Good luck on your journey, it does get easier and we are all here to help!
