    Hi
I don't know if this the right place for this question but any help gratefully received!

My stress levels continue! Just had a letter today from stepchange. saying Santander won't accept my reduced payment for my DMP and not to worry as they will continue sending it to them and for me to let stepchange know if they pass it on to a debt collection agency!

Obviously I am worrying! Has anyone else been in this position? If so what happened? I find Santander horrible and aggressive to deal with - the worst company ever!

    Many thanks

    Hi

They have to send you a statement at least annually and you are entitled to request one too. Good news on the interest but I'd want some written confirmation.

    HHx

Yes I know I should do this. I have my annual review in January so I am going to take a day off work and put all my DMP affairs in order;):D

    Hi Pickle

We had a problem with one of our creditors not accepting our payment but we were in the fortunate position of being able to increase it a little which sorted the problem out. As SC said don't worry and just keep paying. If they send it to a DCA you just pay them instead and things aren't really any different. It's very unlikely they will go to the trouble of court or anything like that. It's probably scare tactics just to see if they can get more money out of you.

Hi, please don't stress anymore about it. Santander have been fine with us, it was Natwest we had fun and games with. They wouldn't accept our payment when we started (Jan 2012) and stepchange carried on paying them. We had letters occasionally from Natwest and I wrote to them a couple of times about our DMP and they carried on declining our offers. We had interest and late charges added month after month, but no other issues. Eventually thanks to advice on here I wrote to the FOS, who got charges refunded on the CC, but couldn't do much on the O/D we had with them. Natwest have just defaulted us (last month) for the O/D, and accepted the DMP payment. They have been paid every month, and it's all worked out ok in the end.

Just carry on paying them, and you'll get there.
  • Pickle, worry not. It is not unusual for a creditor to refuse a payment proposal. The payment will be sent regardless. They cant have what you don't have.

Tbh although it may seem daunting but it is generally far better when your debt is passed onto a debt company. Interest will be frozen and they will have sold the debt for pennies to the pound. This will make it far easier to make much reduced full and final payments further downthe road

Thank you, but what does FOS mean?

You just call them and they do the forms for you. Good service on the whole.

    Hi Pickle and welcome :hello:

Lots of creditors do this, please don't worry. We have been in a DMP for almost 2 years and some of our creditors have still not accepted it but they still take the payment and cash it each month.

You don't have to deal with Santander on the phone, just tell them "I am with StepChange, my reference number is XXXXXXXX, please speak to them" and put the phone down. If they persist in their calls, write and tell them you will only accept communication in writing, then make a complaint if they persist.

We all seem to have at least one creditor we find difficult, mine changes from month to month but is currently BOS who are driving me around the bend

Please stick around for help, advice and support, you will get it in bucket loads here.

    Hi Pickle,

Santander were our biggest creditor and I felt so disloyal to them when we first went on our DMP having banked with them for 25 years but that feeling soon changed when they refused to accept our DMP or reduce interest and charges. However, they still take the payments and I'm still not sure whether they have accepted our DMP three years on lol!
