  • Well thats my 2nd dmp payment made ... so far so good. I have had letters from lloyds tsb about acceptance of the plan on:
    1. a loan (£1.5k left) but they didnt specify an interest freeze
    2. a bank account (2.5k ) where interest and charges will be frozen
also had acceptance form tesco about a credit card (largest debt 7k) with interest frozen.

Just waiting for lloyds on a 2nd account (£750) and argos on £1.6k.

I was a little worried as I now have defaults on these (scared if I ever wanted a house etc) but I'm not happier as I can now save a little every month to get these paid off asap. In the meantime my life will be far less stressful and my finances are heading in the right direction.

Oh joy, Christmas is fast approaching and after making a reduced payment on our DMP this month after the car repairs what happens? The engine warning light comes on. Now something else needs fixing and bonus! two new tyres wouldn't go amiss either:eek:

    What a pain.

  • If the engine is still running, you could just take the bulb out the dash and problem sorted GUO :D *

On a more serious note I hope it is something simple and something that doesn't cost too much, although most modern cars cost too much these days, oh to go back to the days of carbs and points.

*please note this should not be taken as mechanical advice on how sort out an engine warning light

Wisdom comes from experience. Experience is often a result of lack of wisdom.

GUO - am really sorry things are still not going well with the car, it's something very real to me as have been there, done that etc so many times over the last 21 months :o

    What car is it?

As you may recall, we had countless problems with our "Old Faithful" before we finally gave up this month. One of the things we found was that electronic diagnostics generally costs a fortune even before you get any work done. There is generally a way to self diagnose so you can get an idea of the problem and a guesstimate of the cost.

For over a year, we just got away with resetting the ECU or the fuel pump, each time we had a problem. We also replaced several parts ourselves which we purchased on ebay. It's not ideal but does give you some breathing space and it was all thanks to a fantastic online forum, specifically for our car. I bet there is something similar for yours but if you need any help looking, just let me know.

    Hope it works out ok.

Hey, this is my story! :D Since being on a DMP my car has decided to have 3 oil leaks, 2 windows drop, 1 sensor, a battery go and 2 coils go. And that is within the past year. Get your car repaired and if you have to make a reduced payment again then you have to. It is frustrating, though. Hopefully, it is nothing too expensive.

I hope your garage is good to you, we've moved about a bit until we finally found a sympathetic one that will only do essential work, but does it properly and reasonably priced.

The advice from Step Change in this situation is to keep on paying and just keep re-iterating that you are on a DMP with payplan and quote them your reference number. Don't worry if they pass you over to a DCA, everything carries on just the same.

Sound advice as usual, we had several creditors who said they wouldn't accept the offer to begin with, once they realised that was all they would get they accepted. Almost a year and a half in we haven't heard anything from them apart from monthly statements. Oh and by the way they all froze interest. I think this is just their way of squeezing every penny out of you that they can get.

Thanks guys! I have seen that episode of the big bang. I love that programme! Although I was thinking of doing a Homer Simpson and just putting a piece of sticky tape over it!

Thanks TTFTM. We know what the problem is now, something to do with the fluid that goes into the thingy-ma-jig to make the 'what do call it' go. I have no idea, cars don't interest me in the slightest so it is in one ear and out the other quicker than you can say breakdown. Any how it's not too expensive to replace the fluid but the problem is getting the car hooked up to a computer to reset the something or other:D

It's a Ford Focus Cmax btw. I wouldn't have the first clue where to start tbh and other half can't even put up a shelf without making the wall look like a sieve:(

    Hi GUO,
We've had pretty much the same month, I had been ignoring the noise of my little old banger, much to my mechanics disgust, it resulted in new brakes, then OHs much newer car started to play up the same day and had to have a new coil and plugs! Talk about making me sweat!!! These things come to try us eh! Ah well least my mechanic is going to have a good Xmas!!

Hopefully it won't be as bad as u imagine x
