It's good to read the positivity on here.
I've just had my letter from SC to confirm my DMP starts on 1st March, as well as an notice of acceleration email from one of my creditors stating that I am in default of my loan and the full balance is now due.
Seeing as I haven't missed a payment yet this took me a bit by surprise however it does state that interest will not accrue from this point forward, so I'll read this as good news.
I've sent a quick email back to confirm that they have accepted my payment offer submitted by SC.
A couple of not so good things however are that one of my creditors (a payday loan co.) have refused to stop the card payment that is due to go ahead at the end of the month. Should I cancel my debit card that this is linked to so as to stop the money leaving my account and leaving me with nothing?
Also I tried to open a basic account with Barclays this week, only to be told that I couldn't open the account until my DMP is actve and the first payment has gone out of my account. Means I will have to go back in again in a couple of weeks, but hoping that it will not be a problem then.

Hi
Stop direct debits apart from those connected to who you bank with. You can pay other ways etc.
Barclays advice sounds strange! Any reason you cant go to the coop, you can be set up in days.
I think continuous payments are used by payday loans rather than dd. There are templates for these types of continuous payments here and on the debtline website.
Good luck

Well done
I went to two different post offices. Don't know why I didn't think to do online payments as Ms TTFTM did. I watch and learn

Hi quarry,
I have to say the guilt does get better everyday and i take consolation in the act that I am being proactive about my debts and taking control of a spiralling situation.
After all if I don't do this now how much worse would this get!
SO FAR most of my creditors have been very accommodating apart from hsbc whom I've banked with for 20+ yrs.....and to think these were the people I had the most loyalty to!
I'm trying to remember its not personal and they are just numbers on a piece of paper, although distressing at times, it has to come second to my health and my precious family
That's why I think this thread is so valuable u can let off steam, read/share experiences, get advice or even a giggle without being judged!
Good luck
Thanks Mossop01. I've read a couple of times that HSBC are unhelpful. I recently transferred other balances to them on a 9 month 0% deal. I did this because I've been with them for over 30 years with no problems and I wanted to reduce the number of cards I owed money on. Wish I hadn't now but there's no going back.
Best wishes.

I decided to only use POs with them to make sure they have no knowledge of my new account number. (i'm being paranoid?)"NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS FREE FOOD"

Q
Based on peoples experiences in here there seem to be something fundamentally wrong with the way HSBS dealing with people with finacial difficulties. I'm sure a large number of people complained about it to the Financial Ombusman- why don't they investigate them and put some pressure on them?
:DMaybe this is something Martin could address to help us all out.:D
Does anybody knows how to bring this to Martin's (The Financial God) attention???"NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS FREE FOOD"

Hello again.
I've had my telephone interview with StepChange and my income is not sufficient for them to put in place a DMP. I'll still keep an eye on this forum but I'm obviously not in the same position as most members.
Does anyone know of any homeworking opportunities provided by honest organisations? I'm going to look at the various ways of making extra cash which have been posted on this website, however I really need regular work.
Thanks.

You could try having a look on the National Debtline website to see if there is anything you can do yourself in terms of a self-managed DMP or making token payments for now.
As far as homeworking, I think you have to be careful as there are some rip-off merchants about. A good starting point might be to head over to the Up your Income thread. There might be some ideas for you there but of course you have to be wary of anything that might affect entitlement to any benefits etc you may be receiving.
Good luck with everything and I hope things pick up for you soon.Allypops
