So glad to hear of peoples successes, getting interest frozen and the like. Sat and did all my letters and sent account numbers to StepChange tonight. I'm now a bit worried as some of my debt is from online gambling (I've never told anyone that, so feels good to say it), I have stopped now quite successful I think, I was going through some dark times. My worry is wether creditors are likely to look less favourably on this type of debt and not freeze the interst. Does anyone know if this is likely?

    Mo

Hi Mo, no I don't think they will care a jot as long as they are getting their money back. Good to hear you are coming out of those dark times, I think a lot of us have been there too in the past. Let us know how you get on:)

    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all the kind words and support. I do feel so foolish I'm in this position, I'm suppose to be a capable parent!

Well I've sent of my letters to the creditors, arranged to change my bank account and sent my paperwork to Step Change, once I have my new account I can transfer the Council Tax etc and go from there. Is there anything else anyone thinks I should be doing?

Also having a clear out to try to raise some money for Christmas, fingers crossed, the kids are angels though and never ask for much.

    Mo :)

Yup, we all feel that too... But you are doing the capable thing, and it's not easy, and more to the point lots of folk in your position don't accept responsibility or take control, you have done both, good on you!

  • Had a letter last week from MBNA confirming reduced payment of £x amount then a new statement drops through the letterbox. I decided to double check and make sure everything is all set up and rings MBNA.
"Yes we have the SC DMP number, etc... BUT note that after 7 months of "Default" payments your account may be passed onto a collection agency"
Sorry for being a bit silly, but what does this mean? Willa new DMP have to be arranged?
Can anyone shed light on this?

You will just have to inform SC that the debt has been transferred, it's very easy to do by logging in on their DMP section of their website.

You aren't alone there Mo. I live in Numpty Mansions aka a house full of past financial incompetents! I have to emphasise the 'past' word because we have taken control and are proud to be dealing with our debts:money:
