DMP & Mutual Support Thread - Part 9

Hey all,
Think we may have dropped a big one today. OH had a letter from Ford who we have a car on finance with, its basically a Ford options package, we have a further 1.5 years to go with this but they wrote to us and said to call in as they mat have good news. We went in and they told us they could re-do the package and our monthly payment would go down by £18. We were caught up in the whole thing and agreed to this, but as we were about to drive off we realised what we were doing - refinancing the whole debt for a longer term - I don't know why we thought it would be any different. We went back in and told the guy we were on a DMP and it wouldn't be worth doing this anyway, he told us that the forms had already been submitted to the Ford finance company....
Anyway we got a call about 10 minutes later to say we had been rejected. No real bother to us, but now I am worrying that our creditors may think we have been trying to get further credit.
We were honestly just baffled with the whole offer and the thought of saving £18 a month. I can't believe after all we have gone through we would be so stupid!!!
I just hope that this stays hidden from all our creditors and SC....
They would have to find out first! Even if they did, which they wont you could just say you realised you couldn't and withdrew! Are you allowed to carry on with current deal for the car though?

Welcome to the family.
It will sort. There are plenty of laws to protect you and not let them harass you. It's really worth making the effort to start at the beginning of the thread to read journeys and gain knowledge too.
Shout up if we can help with anything.
One important thing you need to do is write to each one with details of your SC number. In the same letter request interest freeze and make it clear you are committed to paying back the debt and that you only want to be contacted in writing. There are really god templates on national debtline site you can borrow from! Make sure you send the letter recorded delivery or they will likely deny having it. Then any further contacts other than in writing you can report them. Easy!
Good luck HHx0 -

Thanks HH, we can carry on with the existing deal which doesn't finish for another year and a half. I think we were just hacked off that we were caught up in the moment thinking we could save a bit of extra cash. I thought after all we had been through we would be a lot more savvy than this.....Debts as of June 2012 - £68,986.35Now £27,470.20 :T57% of debts cleared:beer:0 -
Do people think a separate dedicated thread for posting experiences on getting charges and interest frozen and/or refunded would be a good idea? Plenty of good advice on here, but a dedicated place to go to see what others have managed, how they did it, who they approached and how, what complaints they made etc might be a helpful resource to supplement this thread?

Hi,
I'm not convinced this would be a good idea, I think it would dilute this thread too much as posters wouldn't post the same information in 2 places, if you see what I mean..
I'm only just starting the journey but spent a lot of time reading this thread and past threads and writing down post numbers etc of useful info. If this was posted seperately i'm not sure people would join in on here as much.
Only my opinion though... and i am a newbie...:DChristmas 2020 £109

Hi Fermi
I don't mind either way. It's all about individual style I think, horses for courses. I appreciate the general moral support and humour from this thread as well as the practical advice. I appreciate some people would rather have just track records separately but am also sceptical that would make an easier thread for the Preditors who think DMPers and the like are just trying to get the better of them!
Thanks for everything you do for us. The world is a better place with you in it
