SOunds like a good plan Growurown, I wish i'd been able to keep something like that. Right now i'm totally and utterly skinted and until the end of next month literally won't have more than about 5p spare for anything so desperately hoping there are no surprises afoot.
Although i'm really chuffed about my move and new work and all that jazz it aint half expensive!0 -
Glad you have something to fall back on for those unexpected expenses GUO as it can be pretty hard to try and keep an emergency pot going.
I think after years of not learning to budget it is hard to try and keep it up until it becomes habit. I must confess my daily spends tracking lost a bit of interest for me for a couple of months but now I am back on top of it, I am much more aware of just how much the little daily spends can add up and I can eke my monthly pay out a bit better. This in turn means I am very controlled in not touching my small emergency funds stash.

Afternoon fellow DMPers. As previously mentioned I am trying to get through this month on a shoe string. Now OH's employers are sending him away for a few days and we have to fund this too:( He has to book his travel and then they will re-reimburse him but there's no spare money to do this so we are dipping into the £500 emergency overdraft. Not the end of the world, the bank won't care and the charges are very small. When I started on my DMP other posters said 'don't be tempted by the overdraft!' but I am glad we hung onto it as it has proved to be very useful. Just got to resist the temptation to spend it on stuff we want rather than stuff we really need.
I know the feeling Growurown, I work away often and it's always touch and go whether we have enough to cover my expenses! We've been on our DMP for three years now and so far I've managed to pay expenses out of the emergency fund but there have been a couple of times where I've had to have Pot Noodles in my hotel room for tea lol!Debt Free 1st March 2017

Hi,
Thought I'd drop in with an update!
After sending my first 2 letters to creditors and both of them phoning me I then expected the next 3 to do the same. But no, all quiet at the moment. All my cheques have been cashed so I know they know....
Still working at getting the joint account closed, should be done this week fingers crossed!
I'm working to my SC budget and come the end of the month will be in the position to send everything to SC to start the ball rolling. Hoping for a start up of 1st November so I can bank Octobers payment for an emergency fund. Will be sending last few creditors letters and token payments off at the end of the month after salary hits new account. I will also send another letter and token to those who have already had one, to keep within the 28 day period.
I changed all my dd's over to my new account and am checking they are set up on my online banking.. so nothing very exciting to report, which is quite exciting really... its weird not spending every minute of every day trying to work out how to pay everyone.
Now I have said all that I shall probably have hundeds of phone calls next week.. well maybe not that many I only have 7 creditors although 1 of them is loan/od and cc..
I also fixed the mortgage for the next 5 years and should receive £100 for doing that at the end of the month. :T
Hope you are all having a lovely sunday and I will update again when I have more news......

Hi to all
Suseska - so sorry to hear about your sister
TTFTM - sorry you're having to deal with work worries
Puzzcat - that all sounds really positive.
DMP started on 1st of this month and all creditors have accepted it and frozen interest and charges. A couple want a review in 6 months but I'm happy with that.
Pay day next week and for the first time in a very long time the account is in credit!0 -

Hi TTFTM, are things looking any better? I went through the redundancy worry at the beginning of the year when they closed my office down. Fortunately I managed to get a job in another area with my company. Hope you get some good news soon.DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Hope you survive until pay day andrar! I can't tell you how tempting having that over draft facility is especially when things are really tight, but my car is going in for it's MOT soon so I may need it for that if things are bad. Glad your move and new work are going well:)Find_The_Real wrote: »Glad you have something to fall back on for those unexpected expenses GUO as it can be pretty hard to try and keep an emergency pot going.

Budgeting is hard isn't it? It takes a lot of will power not to spend that emergency pot. When we had credit we never thought about what we spent, if we wanted it we just bought it (until the crunch came). Now we have to plan and think ahead. Don't get me wrong we still have a good standard of living but with no credit to fall back on we can't be rash with the funds anymore.Ellieseleven wrote: »I know the feeling Growurown, I work away often and it's always touch and go whether we have enough to cover my expenses! OH's employers are always throwing a spanner in the works! They are administratively challenged so money that is supposed to come through on a certain date doesn't turn up, or they have lost the paperwork blah, blah, blah. OH has got to go on few trips over the next couple of months but we have to organise the travelling and pay for it and then claim it back because admin can't handle it. There is no purchasing code for the pot of money these trips are coming out of. I said can't they allocate it a code, but apparently the computer says no:rotfl:DMP Mutual Support Thread No. 421

Did you hear back from all creditors? We started our dmp with payplan and they took on everything from the 1st September, not heard anything from creditors apart from we are waiting to hear from payplan. We do have a lot of creditors though so may take longer i suppose!
Thanks

Morning all, I hope you all had a good weekend.
I spoke way too soon about that small emergency fund stash looking healthy, the hoover went and packed up over the weekend. However in rather good MSE mode I have managed to source a new one with £150 off and a 6 year warranty so I am going to break into my fund whilst it is a good price. Yes I know a true MSE would try and get one second hand but where I live I would be rather concerned at just what has been sucked up into that hoover and how long it may last.
