I know many have changed from a managed DMP to self-managed but has anyone had success with self-managed from the start or not? Do the creditors take you less seriously if you self manage than if a DMP firm are in control? I have read a lot of good things about the NED-CAB system but not noticed anyone who has used it from day 1?

I think most people go with a provider like Step Change because it is a very stressful time and it is nice to have the support, especially if they aren't sure how to proceed. Plus creditors can be very manipulative and try to persuade people into paying what they can't afford. If you know what you are doing and feel strong enough to stand up to the creditors I can't see why you shouldn't do a self managed DMP. NED-CAB has been used by some DMPers doing a self managed plan and I haven't heard any negative comments about it.

I have heard that some creditors won't play ball unless you are with a company such as Step Change, but hopefully if you use NEDCAB this won't be a problem.

:hello: Morning fellow DMPers. I have come to have a moan and I am very :mad::mad::mad:

As previously mentioned we are having to dip into the £500 overdraft to fund a trip next week for OH's work, however the finance dept. assured him that the money for the trip would be available to us yesterday to cover the hotel, car hire costs etc. I checked the bank balance and yep you've guessed it - no money there. So he asked where it was to be told that there was a mix up, the money won't be available until the end of next week now. Aaagh what is it with these people? They can't seem to get anything right! Well this puts us in a right pickle because we have already paid for the flight and there isn't enough money left to pay for the rest. I don't get paid for another week so funds are pretty low anyway. OH is really embarrassed because he has got to go into work now and tell them we don't have enough money and if they don't sort this out then basically he can't afford to go.

I'm going to go and have a sulk now:(

    Hi,
I started a DMP with SC last month, but have realise I ommited to add 1 credit card to it, is it possible to add this or would I have to re-do the whole DMP process again?

Give them a call, they'll be able to add it on and recalculate your payments.

GUO what a rubbish thing to do! Can't he go in and blame incompetence from payroll dept? And say he's sick of this happening and to make a stand they have to pay him or he's not going? After all it is their mistake. It does seem sometimes that when things go wrong u do ur best to rectify it and it still doesn't go to plan!!! We've had a similar month, hang in there things can only improve! Surely they can authorise a payment to him as an emergency especially as its their error! I would be livid if it was me! Hopefully u will find some resolve! Fingers crossed for you. X

Thank you Mossop, but happily I can now report back that he went into work this morning and gave someone a 'jolly good talking to' and lo and behold some money went into our account this afternoon. He has complained time and time again about their administrative failings but it all seems to fall on deaf ears. When we started our DMP they paid his wages into the old bank account. We gave them plenty of notice so there was no excuse. He's had to wait several months to get his overtime pay in the past because someone forgot to dot an 'i' I expect. It's so frustrating. I know they have all these systems in place to prevent funds going missing, but talk about jobsworth!

  • Glad the stern talking to got the finance dept moving GUO, it is a shame that sometimes this is what it takes to get things done but glad they saw sense and managed to make that really 'difficult' transfer they should have already done.

I have noticed that as soon as you say I am with payplan and this is my reference the majority accept this and wait to hear from payplan but can only talk from personal experience.

I have been thinking about it all day and I think I have come to the same conclusion that although I think I would prefer to be in control at some point, I think the initial set up would be just too much right now and I am just far too busy with work and everything else and feeling pretty frazzled!!

I think I may need to take a day off to get this started as every day I think I will get it done and then its this time before I finally sit down (before promptly falling asleep reading this forum)

Just another quick query if I may. I have a 2nd job which is a zero hour contract. Some months I do very little for them and others I am snowed under. There is no 'average' as it really is one extreme to the other. So my query is what do I tell the DMP bods in terms of income??? I don't want to average it out over the year because that will mean that some months it will be easy, and other months we will struggle??

Any idea what they do with irregular income? (I know I should ring them and ask them but as I said, its usually late at night that I get to sit down and look at stuff and so they are usually closed)
