Hi all,
Just wanted to get a little advice please - I've just begun sorting through all of my debts and the like, and I've had a conversation with a company who say they can put a DMP in for me but then received lots of advice to use StepChange or similar. Could anyone let me know what their experience of StepChange is like - do they manage the matter entirely or will I still need to liaise with creditors based on their advice?
I've also heard about PayPlan - anyone have any experience of them?
To be honest I'm a total novice and any advice anyone has as to where to start would be really much appreciated.
Thanksstarting a journey I can't wait to complete...

I can only comment on payplan and would recommend then to anyone who is dealing with their debts
They have helped me clear £24k debt over 90 months.0 -

Welcome
I would say go with one of the three charities or do it yourself rather than a fee paying one.
For me SC were life savers at the beginning of the plan and I will always be grateful for that. I came to realise that no one was going to look after my money and interests better than I would so eventually went self managed.
If the fee paying companies were worth their salt they would give money back guarantees. They don't. Most of us would say why pay them for something you don't need to that could be paid off your debt.
Please let us know what you decide to do.

As the title suggests after much procrustination i have contacted Stepchange to set up a DMP.
I Have the paperwork just got to sign it and send it.
I've been reading this forum (and this thread in particular) for far too long without acting!
Just a few questions:
Is it best to pay any extra money (ebay, payrise, Bonus) to the DMP or try to build a savings pot for future F & F offers?
When it comes to creditor hassle or not freezing intrest, should I just let stepchange deal with it or should I use template letters to do it myself? or will a combination of the 2 have the best effect?
Whats the best way to make Token payments as I don't have chequebook and I don't want to give my creditors my new Bank A/C details?
Sorry about the ramblings just a lot of questions going round my head.0 -

Welcome
Suggest squirrel any extra money into an emergency fund.
Tokens can be done with post orders (there's a charge) or internet banking.
SC don't do much to get interest reduced but we can help you with that. we have a good track record on this thread
Please don't apologise, we have all been there. Just remember how you feel and that everyone has something to give so pop in to help others from time to time please.
