Halifax have changed my address without permission.

Hi.
I have just logged into my online banking to reduce my overdraft amount to stop temptation. Upon doing this I have noticed that my address has been changed to my previous address, from over 4 years ago. I have no idea why they have done this and I only started banking with Halifax in June 2012. I upgraded one of my accounts with them, and they said they sent me a new card for it. I have not received this yet, and now it all adds up, they sent it to my old address.
Surely they cannot do this? How did it happen? I'm so angry with them. No notification, nothing. Considering moving to another bank now.

If you only started banking with them last year, how do they know your address from 4 years ago?0

How did it happen?
Complain. Ask them.0 -
Would you normally use the account?
Sometimes lenders will use credit reference agencies to obtain new addresses etc.
This is just a possibility I'm not saying this has happened.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
Maybe someone at your old address has info for you from letter that got sent there and have convinced Halifax to change addresses for you.
I would make sure the card they sent out is cancelled and a new one sent to your actual address straight away.0 -
I think you should be asking Halifax for a full explanation of this. It implies a security breach with your account,0

You will have had to provide all addresses for the last six years for credit checking. You need to contact them and complain. Have you ever received anything at your current address from them? If so take that and some id and go to the branch. If someone has changed it for fraud purposes they should have a record of it a form maybe. I don't know how they work though. I vaguely remember changing my address with them years ago and not having to give any id or even my card which I found very strange.0

Watch out with this.
I had my address changed to my ex-husband's. I'd never, ever lived there.
The Halifax reported this link to the CRAs and we were re-linked financially. This was a nightmare as he has a horrific credit history.
It took approximately 6 months to get this rectified.
Idiots.
Good luck op.

It's probably a human error. Somebody keyed something wrong, and a previous address has gone in to the space for your current address.
Contact them and ask them to put it rightEarly retired - 18th December 2014

They got the address from my provisional driving license. For some reason, they thought they would use the address from that instead of the one i told them to use (and provided proof, ofc). It is sorted now.Total debt Aug 2012: £3800, Nov: £3225, Dec: £3151.45 2013: Jan: £1544.24 :j Feb: £1492.03
