I know the handset is olllllddddd

But I need to update the battery cos it's dying too quick. Like as if I could use the battery life as a timer to bake a chicken.

Any recommendations for real, genuine APPLE and OEM standard batteries out there? there are far too many fakes out there and I dion;t know where to start.

If you go through the proper route (Apple) then the cost is £55 plus shipping if needed at £7.44

This would be a genuine part and serviced by Apple - make sure that you backup all data as it would be factory reset after the battery change.

If you fancy doing it yourself, then get a battery like http://www.amazon.co.uk/GENUINE-IPHONE-INTERNAL-BATTERY-REPLACEMENT/dp/B006WJ0KKS/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1360454219&sr=8-3 and tools, following a YouTube clip, taking care not to damage your phone forever.

Alternatively take it to a phone shop, but whether you will get a genuine part is anyones guess.

I am in the same position, all seems fine for about 50% battery then it drops quickly and can cut out and switch off at 20% or below. Weighing up the cost of replacement battery against putting the money to another phone. For £50 can get the 4s on contract at £21.50 month.

An OEM part is a little pointless at this stage as it adds to the cost. My local phone shop did it all for £20 and the battery is still fine 14 months on.

So I take it that practically none of the iphone battery supplies are legit. I'm guessing Apple probably keeps their supply chains locked up and the foxconn factories will most likely monitor their staff like a hawk.

I've bought 3rd party (fake) batteries in the past for my PSP. None of them have actually lasted. Within months they start to perform worse than the original degraded 3 year old OEM battery.
