Got to see the OR!!!

Can I ask, what is it the OR can do that makes seeing them scary? You are bankrupt once the court says you are, is that right? Then you see the OR? They can't presumably "unbankrupt" you? Or take money you don't have? I'm just wondering if this is an aspect people worry about for a good reason or not? If I need to worry, lie to me now!
They can`t do anything to you. I think it`s a realisation that you have to bare your soul to a stranger who will delve right into your financial past. Embarrassment that you are in the situation, nerves, losing a car or property.....lots of little things that make a big nervous one.:o

I won't mind baring my soul as long as he or she won't mind me crying all over them ;-) Thanks for that TJ.0

I`m sure you wont be the first or last to cry in an interview with them. Just remember that they are dealing with us all day every day so they`ve probably seen it all before. I hope you get a good one. They seem to outnumber the bad.

It is more of a fear of the unknown I guess, I like being in control, but with my finances lately, we haven't been. And now it is in the hands of the OR's office.
I am not afraid of the interview next week, as it is something I cannot and don't want to avoid, but I am nervous of what will happen. The woman I spoke to didn't seem judgmental in the slightest. And at the end of the day, they can't make life any worse I guess...0 -
I have to admit I'm terrified.
We aren't going to pull the wool over their eyes but what if they want a home visit? What if they decide we can live without the car or that we only need a small fraction of the money we've got coming in? What if they interview us seperately and decide our stories don't add up (both Dawn and I aren't exactly together in the head, she has post traumatic stress, depression and is pregnant; I've got ME, depression, stress and anxiety) because we've gotten flustered? What if they're just plain nasty to us? What if a nasty so and so puts Dawn into premature labor?
Personally those are our worries... sorry!0 -

Alan, a home visit is rarer than hen's teeth. Unless you lie and get caught, they quite simply haven't the time for all that. cars are a grey area and you will need to make a good case why you should keep it. Mine was an elderly parent who would have become a prisoner in her own home without me keeping the car. Accepted by the OR without question.
Explain the situation with you and Dawn before the interview starts. They are human you know and they want you to have enough money to live on otherwise you could be back next year in the same position. The continuing worry over debt is likely to have a worse effect on Dawn anyway. Try not to worry to much mateBR 18 Oct 2006 Discharged 16 April 2007 :T0 -
Hi PaB - Nottingham is not that far from Spalding, and it is probably the nearest OR office to you. I also had to travel 32 miles to the OR office, in Bristol, for my interview. Luckily there was a reasonable train link.
Good luck with your interview.:beer:I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Alan, I was terrifed too. But the best advice I had from a very helpful guy on this forum was to prepare as much as you possibly can beforehand. Write everything down so you have something to refer to, makes notes about anything you feel may be of particular interest to the OR and things you feel may require further explanation. In particular, I think the events that have led you to choose BR are worth making bullet points on to remind you, and more importantly to keep you from waffling (rather like I'm doing now, which is my big problem when I'm nervous and unsure :rotfl: ).
There were still questions that I couldn't answer, so you'll never be able to second guess what the OR will ask, but an honest 'I don't know' served me just fine. If it's any consolation, it wasn't as bad as I expeced but having my notes to refer to was a godsend, and I would rather be over prepared than under prepared.0
