• AVGFree is pretty good. It's the Grisoft download MrSkint has listed. Has done wonders for keeping my comp clean.
See the third sticky at the top of the techie stuff board too.
I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

Thanks! Will those mentioned alert me to, and stop, viruses attacking my computer? Will they also allow me to scan the system and quarantine or fix things if necessary?

I know not everyone likes Norton - I do, but hey, we are all different!

If you are after Norton, this is a good price:

• Avg Free will do all those things. Probably more too, but I haven't stretched it .....yet.

Another question, does it ask you to update the virus definitions etc regularly?

Thanks everyone!

From a similar thread...
The two main players on the market are Macafee and Norton, and you will certainly be pushed these products by manufacturers and retailers. However they are not the best virus-guards available.

You can get an independent rundown of the latest security measures by visiting Wilders.org. For a comparison of virus-guards see this link:

http://wilders.org/anti_viruses.htm

Personally I use Nod32 and here are four reasons why:

- To date it has not missed a single in-the-wild virus
- Only costs £23.00 a year
- Consumes very little system resources, so you don't even notice it's running
- Wilders.org awarded it a 5-Star rating

But enough from me...read the reviews on Wilders and make up your own mind.
• At the end of the day you pay ya money and take your choice - I use NOD32 like getafix and can verify everything said.

The only thing I would add is that if you have a problem just e-mail the company and they respond very quickly. The wilders website has a forum dedicated to NOD32 where the manufacturing company Eset in this case are moderators and will also help you.

AVG may be very good, opinons vary, but support I believe for the free version is somewhat limited.

If you go to the BBC website and search for the Click online program it has an article on free anti-virus software and you can also watch last weeks program.
