Only in the same way that you can't answer a question. If you honestly want me to think that the insurance companies are "not making profits", all the while they're still in business, charging whatever premium they like, paying out the shareholders, the chairmen are bringing in a couple of £million+ each year, combined with all the salaries, infrastructure and everything else associated and all with government mandated legal requirement that should anyone wish to "drive a car" they're obliged to purchase their services. Then no. I don't have clue.

And my "choice" is ... if I don't buy it from one company, then I must buy it from another.
  • Since I legally have to buy the products.
I have no choice, ergo. scam.

Though it is not the insurers that stipulate the rules, they just operate within them (to varying shades of white)

As per the previous discussion, there is possibly an argument over EL and Motor that other routes may be "better" given the statutory requirement to have them but history has shown that state administered solutions are not always the most cost effective.

Even if they are state administered then with PPEs that are so much in vogue, that isnt necessarily going to stop private companies making profits from it

Er, yes. Yes it was. I cancelled the policy within minutes of taking it out. It hadn't started and they didn't charge me anything, just refunded the lot.
