    No, it's not normal.
There are several ways your application may have been delayed - varying from they diddn't get your form, but haven't gotten round to stopping your benefit, to you've been migrated over, and are getting exactly the same amount due to transitional protection - but the letter went astray.
You're going to need to phone them to find out.
(The latter can be ruled out if your bank payments still say 'IB' not 'ESA')

How long does it usualy take to hear back from them initialy? I sent my form off on 22nd January and still haven't heared anything. Thinking about it now its early days for me still I suspect but the aditional stress of what they are going to do with the benefit I am genuinely reliant upon is causing me extra worry. If they reduce the benefit or take it off me altogether I am not going to be able toprovide food for me and my husband. How long should I leave it until I phone to enquire or will this just make things worse? I have no idea what is likely to happen as have received no information other than the letter to tell me I need to complete the form as the benefit is being transferred. Not even CAB who helped me with the form could give me much info!

    Sorry im aggitated. Thanks :)

I think the reason that CAB cant give you an answer is that it varies so much from person to person.
Think of it this way~ that at least while you are in the process you continue to be paid at your current rate.
Try not to worry too much.

It took almost 5 months from when I sent off the ESA50 until I heard from ATOS to arrange a face-to-face assessment.
  • Hi I have received a letter today from the Jobcentre reguarding my Incapacity Benefits. As I mentioned earlier above I recently submitted the form for assessment to be transfered to the new benefit and was still waiting to hear. Now I am confused as the letter I received today does state I am entitled still to IB and tells me about the new rate from 11 April etc but there is absolutely no reference anywhere to the new benefit (whatever it is called ?) or ATOS. It just still refers to Incapacity Benefit. So its not clear to me whats what.

On a good note the money has been reduced by £2.65 a week at the moment which is manageable, I am sure I can tighten the budget a notch by giving up my monthly magazines which I was anticipating doing when they cut it alltogether.

So can someone please clarify and tell me if I still need to wait and hear from ATOS or if this letter brings the news I have been anxiously waiting for and I have been swapped over smoothly without the need for a medical etc, and they still refer to it as IB ?

    Thanks again.
    :huh::undecided:o

  • I think that you are still being moved over to ESA from IB and that this letter is simply advising that your IB amount will change to £x from11th April. Have you had a medical for ESA yet? If not - they may be doing a paper review/assessment. You'll just have to wait and see. If you do pass the WCA, then you should keep the same amount of money in each week as there is transitional protection involved where a claimant gets more on IB than they would under ESA. It can take a while.
  • I was informed in September last year that I would be going over to ESA from IB. I went on to work related group In October and appealed and just won this week to support group. It says in letter I got today that an assessment in 3 years time. I had cab on my side and also a letter from my GP which I paid for and my partner wrote a letter mentioning issues. I just from depression, anxiety and social exclusion I hardly go out these days

At no time have I had a medical or seen Atos. I do get a small works pension and retired through ill health

No medical yet no and no letter as such from ATOS about ESA. I have returned the form from ATOS to apply for transfer in January which CAB helped me complete and that is it so far. Other than the letter today from JobCentre about the IB.

    Thanks.

  • Just to add my timeline, I applied in June esa50 form sent in July heard from ATOS september. Had assement end of October and got the results from DWP end of January. It just depends on your area really.
Play nice  Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.:j
