O2 offering me free broadband - what's the catch?

We decided to move to BT Broadband from O2 to save a bit of money.

When we called O2 to request a MAC they offered us "as an O2 customer" broadband free for 12 months if we stayed with them for 12 months.

They spoke to my wife, so I'm not sure exactly what they said, but it's set off of my 'too good to be true' sensors so I'm trying to think what the catch could be before we ring back.

I thought they may mean she's committing to her phone contract (without getting an upgrade) for another 12 months, not just the broadband, but any other tricks they may pull?

If you are an existing customer then a 6m free broadband offer is availableas standard if you go through to retentions, rather than normal CS. So 12m free does not necessarily a 'catch'.
If you are the account holder, why don't you speak to them?
Obviously if it's free you 'lose' the £5 mobile discount that you already have.

I'm not, wife is, but I just wanted to do my homework before taking it up and finding we'd fallen for a sales trick.

Ah, so we currently get £17.50-£5 mobile discount = £12.50, so it could theoretically go up to £17.50 after 12 months?

Suppose all o2 customers are in that situation.

(The £5 discount for existing mobile customers could be stopped).

Though you are in a better position than most as you are not going to have to pay anything at all for 12 months.

Assuming the £5 discount remains, then you would still get it if/when you start having to pay for it again.

No, the £5 mobile, discount should still apply at the end of your 12m promotional period.

o2 normally offer 6 months free broadband without threatening to leave .
If they offered me 12 months free I would take it
