water leak on my driveway

i have a water leak on my (paved) driveway . The stop valve is inside my house and was wondering if im liable to pay for the repair? My gut feeling is that i will be liable - has anyone had to pay for a water repair and also any ideas on how much will it cost me ??

Thanks

Andy

Most water companys offer 1 free repair per property , I would ring up the water company first as you may get a free repair.

There should be a stop valve on the boundary of your property too - just by the garden wall, set into the paevment. If you have one of these, you are liable - and it will be expensive to get the paving up for the repair. If there isn't one apparent, you'll have more luck in getting the water co to repair it for you.

Im sorry but that is false information, Stop taps are not always in the footpath they could be anywhere especially on older properties , and if you read my post above you will see that you are not always liable and some water companys offer 1 free repair so it will cost you nothing.

the days of free repairs are going
and it doesnt matter if your stop tap is in oyur garden or your house it depends on the water company that supplies you
the majority of them are now shying away from free repairs and please believe me when i say that its not a compulsory thing they had to do it was a thing they offered to try and drive down leakage as there is a rough estimate that 10% of all leaks are not on the street but on peoples drives/properties.
now on your free repair it will depend on the inspectors discretion i would say if you have no stop tap at boundary to see where the actual service pipe lies then they will tend to leave it up to you to repair and also with you having a concrete drive then thats another factor to make the inspector stay away.
if there is a line of site with your stop tap at boundary then the inspector may decide to commit to the repair but the majority will not reinstate the hole in your concrete they will just make good i.e fill it with stone.

key is to treat the inspector niceley when he arrives

secondley they do have a cap on what they usually can spend on the repair so if oyur drive is pressed/imprinted/dyed concrete he will walk away no mater how you treat him.

    good luck

  • Did you ever get this fixed? I'm curious because I am a new homeowner and I have a water leak coming from my driveway and it's rusty. It's been happening for three days now. I'm going to get a hold of the City of Phoenix to see if they will fix first. I hope you got yours fixed.
