Any comments welcome.
I have a five year old Dell Inspiron 1520 that I bought for £600 . In this time I had the motherboard replaced (after 2 years) and my sister's techie boyfriend put Windows 7 on it and gave it a clean about 7-8 months ago. In the last week or so though it has become so unbelievably slow and is causing me a lot of stress.
The boyfriend has advised me to run CC Cleaner but it hasn't made much difference. He thinks it would be best to just replace it now as most laptops don't last much more than 3-4 years and I feel I've had a good run.
SO he has given me some recommendations and I've narrowed it down to the Samsung 350 and the Lenovo g580:

I really don't want to have to replace the new laptop for another 5 years or so as I only use it for watching DVDs, online TV, Word, Excel and browsing the web
. These specs seem more than enough (he did say said definitely get i5 core and 6gb).
Now I prefer the look of the Samsung but have been advised Lenovo is a better brand. Anyone have any thoughts on these 2 or any other suggestions? I really don't want to spend much more than £400.

Have you tried working through the speed-up sticky at the top of this forum? Might save you shelling out for a new laptop.
I can't see any problems doing what you want on your current machine.:wall: Flagellation, necrophilia and bestiality - Am I flogging a dead horse? :wall:
Any posts are my opinion and only that. Please read at your own risk.0 -
post a hijackthis log, or backup and reinstall windows. ccleaner won't speed it up!!

Probably best to read that thread (or at least the first few posts). All is explained.0 -
Ok I will try this on the old boy over the weekend. If it doesn't work though (and bf is saying it's worth spending some money as opposed to doing lots of first aid to a five year old laptop) then what do you guys think of those options?0

It has only been slow in the last week, therefore an hour or less of effort would probably fix that.
hijackthis log takes 30 seconds.!!

try closeds 's thread if it works get bf to spend it on you.
Sure he doesn't want a new laptop?"If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

Hey sorry I must have confused people, not actually my BF but my sister's. I used to live with them and he helped improve both mine and my mum's laptops about a 8 months ago so not sure what he would gain by me getting a new one. BUT I will try closed's thread later, guessing its best to post the hijack log separately (maybe here? or new thread totally).0
