MSE News: Council tax bills can be spread over a year from April

Ministers are also urging councils to follow the example of utility companies in offering discounts to customers who pay online or by direct debit.
I'd prefer the Council Tax followed the example of the DVLA Road Tax where you get it cheaper by paying it all in one go0 -
Does anyone know the situation in Scotland?0

At least they have made it an option for people, gives them a choice.0

My council have had this for ages! They're really flexible actually:
- you can choose from one of the five payment dates available - the 1st, 8th, 15th, 23rd or 28th of each month
- you can choose to pay over 10 or 12 months in the year and with the 10 month option you can take a one month payment holiday and make your final payment in February instead of January
- you can also choose to pay every 4 weeks over 12 instalments from April to February, starting on any Monday in the month
- you can also choose to pay every 2 weeks over 24 instalments from April to February, starting on any Friday
- you can also choose to pay on any day of the week Monday to Friday over 40 weeks starting the second week in April, or you can choose to pay over 48 weeks from April to March. With the 40 week option you can take up to 4 weeks' payment holiday

To the people for whom this makes a difference: you can't afford to live by yourself.
Try communism or join a cult. Promise to join the Scientologists if they pay all your debt. I hear they have central London bunk beds for members. This is a great way to save on council tax.
The Scientology building pays the same council tax regardless of how many people live in it. Water should be UNmetered, naturally.
I wonder, what if we actively encourage the unemployed to join cults. Since they get food and shelter, in exchange for pamphleteering, recruitment and general duties, we deem membership as employment, so stop all their benefits.
What a saving!0 -

It is because they know that more and more of us can't afford to pay high council tax bills. Band C here is £154 pm and there will be an increase they just put it on the little list that you pay for police and fire service, so even though the government has capped CT the councils will always find a way of increasing it.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I've just done this! I'll be pleased to have a lower bill over 12 months! Then I know exactly what I'm paying.March Wins
