Friday 8th February- what DFW things will you be doing?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important
Morning Everyone!
Couldn't see another thread so started it!
Today I will:
Check bank
Car Share to work
Take lunch into work
Drink free tea/water in work
Have a NSD
Hopefully perform well in a telephone interview for new job
Have a great day everyone!:j

Hey, good luck with the interview

I'm taking lunch with me.
I'm also listing some more stuff on ebay.
Using skype instead of my mobile.
Walking 3 miles rather than taking the bus.0 -
Thanks for starting, was living in fear of doing another double thread! Good luck on the interview.
Thanks everyone, for your thoughts the other day. I've been feeling a bit better, and OH has been great about helping keep my spirits up but depression is something I've struggled with my entire life and probably always will. I have another appointment with the therapist next week so maybe she'll help get me on a more even keel.
We're eating in this Valentines rather than going out, but I want to make something special so am getting recipes etc together now so that I have time to hunt for all the ingredients. Thinking cheese stuffed shells in meat sauce for a main and tiramisu for desert, any ideas for a smashing starter? We eat soup a lot so it would be nice to have something more special. We eat red meat a lot regularly so a steak or lamb chops wouldnt be so special.
Anyway today in MSE:
- breakfast at home, lunch provided by work and dinner at a friends place so just buying wine
- make to do list for weekend as loads on
- work work work
- scout for shells, marscapone and other essential ingredients for next week, lest we need to overhaul!
- watch the end of season 4 of breaking bad after dinner, we are so addicted!
- update meal plan
- check banking and update budget / spending diary
Hugs to all, happy friday!Mortgage free by 30:eek:: £28,000/£100,000

Hi, here's my tale of what DFW-style disaster management plan we had to put into place yesterday.
Here's my rant:
Moved into Housing Assoc house in November. Recently refurbished by a group of semi-skilled chimpanzees; no actually, chimps could have done better. In November boiler fell off the wall, in December whole loft hatch fell down, for example.
Yesterday I was batch cooking. Decided to wash-up half way through. Whole newly fitted hot tap mechanism fell apart. Two inches of water across whole kitchen floor within a couple of minutes. Turned electricity off. Water still pouring out a gallon a minute. OH phoned Housing Assoc who said they'd be out in 3 hours! Couldn't turn stopcock off. Why? Because Housing Assoc had fitted a kitchen unit in front of stopcock with no access point! We had reported this in Nov; they still hadn't done it and we had tired of chasing them.
As Housing Assoc had let us down again and we couldn't afford a plumber we made a DFW-Jedi style plan:
~OH ran next door to get neighbour who's a Janitor/Caretaker for an extra pair of hands.
~Towed all appliances into sitting room. Thank God the only thing that was destroyed was one cardboard box.
~Smashed into cabinet with mallet to access stopcock. Stopcock broken! Didn't stop water gushing.
~Put down a dozen old towels and four cushions to make a dam to protect sitting room. Armed myself with a broom to divert any water creeping towards chest freezer.
~Ran into street to turn water off at mains. Couldn't turn it. Rusted closed and damaged.
~Neighbour made an emergency pipe cap and stopped the water after 15 mins. Very wet and filthy neighbour dashes home to turn off his oven; he was making a special meal for his OH who was due any minute. Paid him in broccoli. He seemed to think this was fair?!
~We clean up and rescue what food we could. Meringues ruined. Took two hours. Used own-brand-Milton fluid to sterilise everything.
~Handwashed all cloths, towels and cushions in the bath then hung on line in pouring rain overnight to rinse well! Didn't want a mountain of wet fabric indoors all night.
~Took a bath, special treat, I usually shower. Watched a DVD. Made and ate dinner. Then, three hours after we sent our SOS to the Housing Assoc, a grumpy, emergency plumber arrived and repaired tap, moaning that we'd spoiled his evening and that he couldn't see how we'd managed to "pull the tap apart". I said, "Why would I spend every spare penny and minute I have making this kitchen look nice and then deliberately vandalise a tap in the middle of washing up, when I was half-way through doing a week's worth of cooking?! Do you think I wanted an indoor swimming pool?!" Plumber didn't reply.
~ Then this morning I ran four spin-cycles and did one load in the washing machine and Milton-ed everywhere again.
Moral of the story: please go check your stopcock works. Do it today, you never know when you might need it! (Link)
Going for a lie-down now.

I've never posted on one of these threads before, but they seem like a great idea! Hmm, what shall I do today?
- Listing more books on amazon and other stuff on eBay
- Put together an email to adobe to try to reclaim the excess money I've discovered I was paying for two simultaneous subscriptions to the same product due to a technical error on their part (oh my goodness I am so cross about this!)
- Finish my application for the job I REALLY REALLY WANT and drop it in by hand this afternoon...eek, wish me luck (I want this job SO MUCH!)
- Pick a DVD from the collection and make dinner from scratch tonight for a cheap Friday night in (no takeaways or film rental, no matter how much Mr. Patator pulls a face :rotfl:)
- Fill in the tax credits application for our joint claim (I detest any applications like this; anxiety = stick head in sand... :eek:but, NO, I'm going to get on with it today!)
- Clear out the cupboard of doom (aka 'the old letter graveyard') in my conservatory and dismantle the totally unnecessary cupboard that's taking up space and getting in the way/being a total hazard for my clumsy self.
Nottoobadyet - keep plodding on, depression is hard to deal with but posting here with little victories might give you a little lift. Hope the appt with the therapist next week goes well.
:)
Allydowd - oh my goodness, it sounds like you're having a hellish time since yesterday! Hoping you're okay and you can get things sorted asap
