Do every comparison site, Every online sites, Every company in the ywllow pages and Every local broker.

Then you will know if you can get it cheaper. New drivers are high risk. Good job your not 17 or it would be around £4000

Also choose some oddball cars. Dont choose a Corsa because its what you learned to drive in. Lots of new drivers buy them and crash them so pushes the costs up.

How about an old volvo estate? What cars are you looking at?

And ignore the insurance group. A group 10 car maybe cheaper to insure than a group 2 car.

£1,630 equates to a premium of £490 for those of us who have 70% NCD.

So in effect they are charging you 3x times what they charge me for the Panda and around 2x what we get charged for the Cherokee (before NCD is deducted).

Best just run some quotes through and choose a lowish group car.

Sad fact is that a group 2 car will cost you less to insure than a group 14 car.

    Suzuki Altro 1.0ltr £433
    Vauxhall Corse 1.2ltr £433
    Ford Fiesta 1.2ltr £473
    Toyota Yaris 1.0ltr £440
    Volvo 940 2.0 ltr £567

Based on late 30's lowish postcode with full license for years, no ncd, no accidents/claims/convictions.

Try insurers with provisional and full license. Might be worth buying a car once you pass your test. If you still get no where, try a broker, they should be able to better £1000 unless you live in a high risk area.
