Errrrrrrr..... my ceed is 9 months old, no idea what HID are, but I know the headlights are poor, I know dozens of others who think the same0 -
Really? Which model are you referring to?
Or are you just assuming that a South Korean car (yes, South Korea, probably now the World leader in electronics, Samsung, LG...) can't possibly have lights as good as a German car?
No I am referring to my own car a kia ceed estate new in May 2012 and they really are poor, the worst headlights i have had on a car in years, they are ok on main beam but shocking when dipped.
I am not a badge snob as you implied, in fact our other car is a Hyundai, but i rarely drive it so cant comment on its headlights, but as it is an i30 they are prob the same0 -

My sincere apologies, as you appeared to retaliate against the anti-German comment, I thought 'here we go again'...
The lights shouldn't be so bad on that model of Cee'd - have you had the alignment checked? And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
Manufactures are running out of ideas to entice the public to buy there cars over another hence any stupid gadget wins the day.
Noticed how many now have the indicators nailed to the door mirrors?
Started by Merc i believe.
I know plenty of people who will buy one made over another just on the amount of toys it has and to hell with the quality, reliability etc.0 -

I agree. I hate all these toys. There are several in my car that I don't use: auto lights, auto wipers, sat nav, reversing camera, parking sensors........ Why do people need their cars to do so much for them?!Trying to be a man is a waste of a woman0 -

Mine are white and don't.
Getting sick of seeing people with fog lights on lately, don't know what the obsession with them is, surely most of the cars will have warning lights on the dash, telling them, that their foglights are on, so obviously they must just like ignoring it, and being knobs, lol.0 -
A lot of very new cars have DRLs which are either the foglamps or they're where you would expect the foglamps to be.0

My auto lights and wipers are on because its just easier. I have once or twice driven off in the dark with just side lights on (54 civic the dash lights up all the time and the headlight and sidelight light on the dash is the same thing), built in sat nav is better than having something stuck to my windscreen, and safer/easier than constantly stopping to check a map (I don't use it every journey, only when going somewhere new...), and parking sensors are useful as I can't see much out the back of my 58 civic, even if I could, when I think I'm inches from another car, I'm actually feet away...
Embrace the technology!! However I'm still struggling to understand why people need the corner fully illuminating...0 -

Nissan released a car with these back in 1988, though they're a completely separate light mounted in the side of the front bumper just in front of the wheel.
The only time I've found it useful is while driving around on the single track lanes up in the Welsh mountains at around midnight, wanting to check if the direction the satnav was giving me was actually correct. Pulled up just before it, turned the indicator on that also lights up the cornering light, allowing me to look down the route it wanted to send me.... it turned out to be a footpath.
Yes I could have just turned part way down it and checked using the headlights, and that's what I would have done if I were in a different car, but this way I didn't have to reverse out, and it was overall slightly more convenient.
Edit: Some models of Subaru Legacy had them in the late 90s too. They worked by using a stop/tail bulb in the sidelights.0
