My gripe is why can HMRC pay tax credits fine by bacs but only do tax refunds by cheque. Its not as if its a different organisation, its the same computer system they use, its the same banking system they use so why can they not pay a tax refund by bacs.
you say they not holding it hostage, but they are. They are denying me money that is legally mine.
Actually it's not the same department, yes they are both government, under HMRC heading they are totally different. Its not the same banking system. And as the above poster said, they have given it to you so aren't denying its' legally yours, you just don't have a suitable bank. Either contact them and complain to see if they can reissue or find somewhere that can help.Saving money like a trouper...0 -
Ok so you asked a question and got the answer but to every answer you got put up a barrier !
Must be a reason why you got a cheque so ask HMRC if you don't get it here.
Cannot be too disparate for he money if you don't want to open a basic account and have no friends to change it for you."Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain."

HMRC prefer to pay everyone by BACS because it is far more secure than sending cheques.
Would you want your cheque to be intercepted and spent by someone else ?. - Thought not.
As for the bank account problem , I cant comment.0 -
They may prefer to pay everyone by Bacs but I think plenty of other mse posters have come to the conclusion that you can have Bacs refunds if you fill in a self assessment return but it has to be paid by cheque if its just a normal tax refund out with the self assessment system.
There were some posts a while ago I think that said that even where you want the (non self assessment) refund to go to your bank a cheque is still sent to the bank, it isn't done by bacs.0
