Halfords Bike Lock Rights?

Options
Hey guys,

My girlfriend bought a bike lock from halfords when she left for University, she has had it since September, it's been attacked twice by someone but worked fine since, now the lock has totally seized, going by reviews on their website this isn't uncommon, it seems everyone agrees that this happens.

My question was what is the likely-hood of getting it replaced? A refund would be preferred but I don't have the card that it was paid with.

If there are signs that it was tampered with then you will struggle. It could even be said that it done it's job successfully foiling two theft attempts and was damaged beyond repair in the process.
  • I expected that'd be the case, thing is the lock actually worked fine for over a month after getting damaged, I guess its just a case of trying

Have you tried giving it a really good spray with WD40, spray some on the key and insert the key then leave it a while then give it another good spray.

    It might work after that.

    Reminds me of a saying:
All you need in life is WD40 and duct tape. If it moves and it shouldn't? Duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should? WD40.

    Bike chains.

I jest, I know the chart is a joke, just thought I'd let everyone know Bike Chains shouldn't be used with WD40.

WD40 is a degreaser and water evaporater, so while it solves the rust issue, the "If it's supposed to move use WD40" is a myth, you want to use lithium Greaser or a Silicone Lubricant, otherwise all you've done spraying WD40 on it is removing the grease that keep the item moving.

You can clean your bike chain in WD40, but you need to lube it up afterwards.

    On the subject, WD40+Disk Brakes isn't a great idea, either :eek::eek: ;)

Well things got off topic :P I took it back and they replaced it without looking at it so can't complain. Got some GT85 on offer too.

I tried graphite lube in the lock but didn't help, got a new one so that's all that matters.

Funny enough there is a growing band that believe the reverse.

Having also tried it myself on my chain....

I can say that its true WD40 is great on your bike chain. Its does keep them clean and running nice and smooth.

Give it a try. I was surprised after I tried it. :D

OK so the replacement lock has now broken. Joy! Do you think I could get a refund without the payment card? I expect I won't be able to
