I have 3. Day-to-day one (Tesco). Halifax Clarity one (for aborad, and occasionally if I hit the £3500 limit on the Tesco one), and currently have Amex Rewards one just to get the free introductory points. I'll probably be cancelling that once I've got my introductory miles.

I never keep a balance on any of them, and my spending is hugely spiky, hence the £3500 limit on the Tesco card occasionally not being enough.

Can't really see a need for more than a couple, unless you're maintaining a balance, or a massive spender.
  • I have 2 CCs.

An Amex cashback, and a Barclaycard World Mastercard (used to be Egg money card) - i.e. another cashback.

My bank card is a Visa Debit for paying things that charge credit card handling fees.

That's all I need! and I use the CCs for absolutely everything possible and clear them each month by DD.

    I have 3 .
BC - day to day purchases
Virgin - Mainly for money transfers
    Nationwide - BT Card.

    Would love an Amex tho.

I have 7 and probably a bit excessive. Took advantage of plenty 0% BT offers and have just never bothered to close the older cards, only one of mines is carrying a balance though on a 0% so they don't make much money out of me.

I also have 7 - I use my Cap One Aspire mostly as I'm still in the initial 3 month 5% cashback - I also use LTSB Amex for points along with Tesco for points. I have a Vanquis which I really should close as I don't use it anymore. I have a Metro Bank card for foreign usage.

Interestingly my Cap One appeared on Experian today - it's my only card with a £10k limit and it has actually increased my score with them as they claim I'll be more trusted with a "high highest limit". Of course as we know, Experian scores are largely meaningless - it's more the comment I noticed..
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.

I have just the 2 Barclaycard & Nationwide.
  • I've got six now, eight has been my highest number of open CC accounts at once. If they serves purpose, may as well take advantage.

Ive got three - two BT cards and a spending card.. all with low balances.

Given the modern days of diminishing returns i may reduce or change these.. however i assume things are different these days with credit ratings.. each has a 10k+ limit and doubt id get a new card with anywhere near a similar balance.

Really does not matter as long as you do not use them for more credit than you can afford to repay from your savings in the event you were out a job.
Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.

I travel a lot in the UK and rely 100% on CCs to buy petrol, food and pay for hotels

refusal of my CCs would be a a disaster as I don't carry much cash
so several CCs give me confidence that I'll be fine

I travel a lot abroad and want a CC that doesn't make 'foreign exchange ' charges and give excellent exchange rates.

cash back CCs are those that give you a discount on purchases

so I have a card that gives 2% discount on petrol and supermarket spending... not a lot but 'free' money
also a 1% discount card that give 1% off on any (all ) spending ... why wouldn't you what that?
