Name on cheque incorrect

I have a received a cheque, but the payer has added an extra S to end of my surname. They have also written the amount to pay on the same line as my name. Will my bank reject it? Should I try and pay it in or request another cheque.

I would send it back, the extra 'S' would probably go un-noticed but the amount to pay will lead to a rejection in my opinion.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0

Did they mis-write the cheque deliberately to delay paying you, I wonder. Or are they new to this cheque-writing business?0

It's for an ebay purchase, so they won't get the goods until it's cleared.

What value is the cheque? If it's not a lot I would chance it at the bank. The cashier may draw attention to it and refuse it but if accepted should be ok.
I wouldn't send the goods for about ten days after depositing the cheque either because it can be bounced after it appears cleared on your bank account and recalled.0 -
If it's only a wee spelling mistake may be worth trying to pay it into your bank, particularly if for a small sum of money. My surname gets mis-spelt all the time and I never have any problem paying cheques in.0

As a cashier myself I would accept it, you get slight spelling mistakes all the time, but just have to use a bit of common sense sometimes, it would be silly to reject a cheque just because it had an 's' on the end.0

Thanks everyone. So assuming the cashier accepts, it won't get rejected further down the line? It's only for £10 so I think I will pay it in.0

I think most recent posters have been concentrating on the additional S at the end of the surname. But putting the amount payable on the same line as the name is not what is expected. Was there anything written in on the amount in words space?0

My son runs his own business and asks for payment cheques to be in his name. Recently he has one made out to his business name - nothing like his surname.
The bank took it quite happily !0
