His example was someone who went to police station.zoominatorone wrote: »But he'd need a NI number surely, because don't you need one of those to claim benefits?
Don't know about benefits if you had no ID or proof.

Assuming he was raised in the woods, he would surely know the names of his parents and any other family, who could then be traced.
To be honest, it is something that could not happen in reality, so all the conjecture is a complete waste of time.
Wasn't there a recent incident of a boy in Germany claiming to be exactly what the OP has mentioned, and it was proved to be a wind-up."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0 -

Nobody without ID can claim benefits. But ID can be established without the usual sort of documents. As mentioned above there is an interview and checking process to be done regardless of where one is from.poppasmurf_bewdley wrote: »Assuming he was raised in the woods, he would surely know the names of his parents and any other family.
I'm not sure if the names Rainbow Stargazer and Crimson Isotope would be much help though.

Not raised in woods as such but I have come across people who have been the product of an alternative lifestyle or mentally incapable of providing background information to be checked.0 -
I've also plenty of similar clients. But they've always been traceable with enough digging and a collaborative approach with multiple agencies.missapril75 wrote: »Not raised in woods as such but I have come across people who have been the product of an alternative lifestyle or mentally incapable of providing background information to be checked.I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

He says his name is Bill Smith and that he grew up off-record in the middle of the woods. His parents passed away and he headed for civilization, but without papers, he can't get a job.
Obviously, you are referring the case of the Berlin "Forest Boy".

Eventually he turned-out to be a Dutch imposter:

Last thing I heard, the German authorities were considering fraud charges and/or claiming-back the money spent on his keep.0 -
Not all births are registered. As long as his birth was registered, there's proof of his existence. A copy of his birth certificate can be purchased at any time. Of course knowing his parents details would make this easier too. I can't imagine many people wouldn't register their child's birth0
