Ive followed you from the OS board and wanted to encourage you and not criticise.

Little steps one step at at time is all i can say. All the help youve been given has been invaluable but probably a bit hard to digest in one go.

    Onwards and forwards eh?

You don't need to heat it up. Cold porridge would be fine. :rotfl:

OP, you're going to rock this.

Well that was a bit of a rollercoaster!

OP, I think I'm correct that you're not in debt, just needing to cut back a little to make the incomings and outgoings match? Sorry, after 10 pages some of the details are a little hazy!

My suggestion (I'm quite sure you've had enough of suggestions though!) would be to just set a budget to cover food/alcohol/pub. If you can save enough from your food budget I do think it would be good to keep the pub visits, it's nice to get out and socialise for one thing but secondly, times are tough for pubs these days and they need community support - if we don't use them we'll lose them.

I also think it's good to have an incentive to cut down your food spend, and this would be a great incentive to me!

I hesitated to post this, partly because now you're on DFW rather than OS it seems a little irresponsible to be advising posters to go to the pub, but also I know you've had lots of people forcing their opinions on you. It's just a suggestion, no more!
  • Ive been reading this thread with interest as it has continued today....slightly selfish to hijack the thread a little, but its "on" topic.... I budget really carefully, buy value every time, bills are the lowest they could possibly be etc etc...i have pet insurance, but for some MAD reason, Ive just realised I have no contents insurance?? I need to get this QUICK...im renting, so only need the contents side - any good recommendations?? (cheapest possible for good cover please!) xx

Good grief, I have just read the whole of this thread, what a rollercoaster!

Just wanted to wish you all the best S'n'S and to let you know you're not the only one, a lot of us are having to make big changes. We were also spending more than our income but after a year of following the oldstyle and debt free boards, things are looking much better.

This is getting a bit OS even for me but this month I'm noting down EVERYTHING we spend and what we spend it on so we can see if we can make any more cutbacks, as like you we have no pension .

Hope the kids enjoy the porridge :rotfl::rotfl::beer:

Hey, great youve joined us to get it together! your finances resemble most average Households so dont be too hard on yourself.

Suggest going for box wine which works out cheaper and there's no rush to finish the bottle each night.

Once you guys get on a written budget at start of every month you will take control and feel like you got a pay rise. Look into envelopes system and switch to paying cash for everything.

Try to do one big monthly shop delivered. You will save loads on those impulse buys.

Once you get things together and reduce expenses you should get your emergency fund in place then get serious about the pensions.

I've done a very bad thing.

I bought a bottle of Blossom Hill Zinfadel (£6.29 at Tescos lol) and left it in the boot of the car until OH went to work.

I'm on a tight budget at the moment and you lot have got me paranoid. :rotfl:

I've never hidden alcohol in my life!

  • I felt the same in Lidl. I was looking over my shoulder to see if someone small and troll like would start jumping up and down shouting at me in the middle of the shop :rotfl::rotfl::beer:
  • Just wanted to say after getting hay fever last year I decided to try taking a teaspoon of local honey daily for a year to build up a resistance to the hay fever. I can't say if it's worked yet but I'm hopeful. I have heard that local honey makes you more tolerant of the pollens.
