The beauty of this place is the diversity & range of opinions.

    Beauty? :D

Mmmm, they do say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ;)

I think some folk are too full of their own self importance and genuinely believe their opinion should somehow be heard and carry weight despite the topic they are opinionating (is that a word? :D) about is not even being offered up for discussion. :p It's really quite presumptious imo.

(Just for clarity, I'm not referring to you CH27. :))

OP, I don't have contents insurance either. :rotfl:

I did a risk assessment which took into account area, level of break-ins, age of items in the house, value of items etc and decided the biggest risk would be from fire. As there is always someone in the house throughout the day and there are fire alarms, I decided the risk of total devastation was small enough for me to consider it acceptable.

If I was flush, I would prefer to have contents insurance but for now it's acceptable for me not to have it. Regardless of how other people view it.

As for everything else, I'm glad you have been able to see ways of scaling things back a bit OP cos you did spend far too much money on crap and enjoying yourself. :p:rotfl:

And yes, unfortunately a side effect of living within your means can sometimes mean not having a life. *wearing the t-shirt presently* ;)

I know I said id butt out lol however this post really does sum it up... my whole point was balance... can u afford contents insurance...can u afford bottle of wine at £6 a week plus cans...balance it up accordingly which would be deemed more important..

I would just like to say tho, nothing that has been said re contents insurance is said maliciously or to offend if anything is completely the opposite last thing I would want is anyone to suffer some kind of home disaster and be left high and dry with no cover nothing to fall back on... unsure why the comments have been taken in such a very negative way to be honest....

I dare you to go over to the pet forum to have that debate. It'd be pitchforks and flaming torches all over again.:D
(Sorry OP for going off topic.)

Been there, got the tee shirt, and stopped posting on that board as I found you couldn't have a differing view there either

There were a certain body who came down hard on anyone who dared to do things different

Lord help anyone who worked and wanted a dog, I was sure they would have had them burned at the stake if they could :rotfl:

But not everyone thinks contents is the bee all and end all. Contents insurance can't replace a life or a memory.

I have no insurance other then car and that only because its a legal requirement

Sorry to say I also read some posts becoming very nasty with unwarranted comments when the op has said time again, don't harp on about the insurance she doesn't want it

I think because the OP didn't want or require opinion about it (and made that clear)?

There's nothing worse than being happy with your own decisions about something and having people 'tell' you to reconsider or infer you are wrong to make the choice you did.

Despite it being well meant. :)

  • OK I started reading this thread as it sounded interesting, stopped reading around page 3 because it was going no where, the OP was answering the same questions time and again.

Now we've got to page 9 and its got good again, all the nice people have come back with an internet hug (so to speak)... I hope S&S you read this and are not entirely put off the board. The ignore button is a god send some times... couldn't agree more!

The only tip I have for you is to swing over to the old style board, less trolls, but more of the sort of information I think you need... but don't be put off by those that manage on tuppence a week from t' mill owner, I like the fact I could survive on less but I really don't want to!

Chin up, the only thing you can do is work out your priorities and work out how to get them!
