I don't know if this is the right place to post this but it's quite a nice coat and it'd be money saving if I wore it . I have a coat about 30 years old and the thing is , it's coney fur . I'd quite like to wear it as I've seen some people recently wearing fur , maybe fake tho'. Will people stare at my coat for being fur , will no one bother to even look ? Does anyone else have a fur coat , old or new , and do you wear it without worrying that you might offend someone's sensibilities ?

hi,
I don't wear fur and although I am against it in general I wouldn't do or say anything against someone wearing it. It does remind me of cruella de vil though so I do tend to start humming it without thinking!
I think if you want to wear it do so (my colleague at work does), i suspect you will get some stares though but probably not much more."I am not a vegetarian because I love animals; I am a vegetarian because I hate plants." A. Whitney Brown0 -
I think there must be a lot of fur coats hanging around in people's wardrobes. I think a lot of women had fur coats bought for them years ago, before it became 'unacceptable' to buy and wear them.
I don't know if I would wear a fur coat. I would probably trade it in and get a nice warm coat that isn't fur, but that's just me. There are some nutters out there. I remember a few years ago I wore a fake fur coat, and I got shouted at by some obnoxious manc who demanded to know how many animals had died so that I could wear my fur coat!! Maybe it wasn't obvious that the fur wasn't real, I don't know.0 -
I have a furry coat as do plenty of people round here so I wouldn't have thought it would be that noticeable? I wouldn't buy or wear a real fur coat.
I would replace it as soon as I could afford to do so in your situation.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
Getting rid of the coat isn't going to bring any bunny-wunnies back to life, is it?
Rabbit farming for fur is still legal, anyway.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
I bought a fur (coney I think) for a vintage revival type occasion, and really enjoyed wearing it - felt like a million dollars. However, I've never been brave enough to wear it for 'normal'. If we get much more cold weather I might have to get it out!No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0

I would be able to tell it's real, and I would stare at you if I saw you in it.0

Surely it's more disrespectful to the animal throw it away rather than making use of it - assuming that you eat rabbit of course.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

you'll just get jealous/envious looks from women who wish theirs was a luxe.
most of those against it I find are fine with vintage fur as it was so long ago, e.t.c
its warmer than the fake ones anyway!0 -
If I remember rightly you can't wear a fur coat if it's raining, - it'll ruin it?0

Thanks for your replies . Yes, rain would prob not be good for it ! It's not that I don't have other coats , I do , but I was watching on tv , that some people were wearing their old fur coats and wondered whether I should wear mine . I wouldn't buy a fur now or anything trimmed with real fur . As I remember , it did feel nice , soft and warm . Maybe I'll give it a go and hope I'm not stared at too much . I wonder why it seems more acceptable to wear leather coats , the skin comes from real animals too . No one stares at anyone in leather .0
