If you need to retrieve the key used to install Windows XP on the Packard Bell, you can use this utility; http://magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.

Keep a note of the 'Registered to' details when you do the 'My Computer' thing.

Not sure if you would need to ask PB for a copy of the OEM disc or you could just download the relevant version of Windows XP and use your existing license details.
Maybe someone here can advise you on that matter.

when you have finished doing all that then this will tidy up the Registry for free (fully working 30 day trial)

    http://www.download.com/TuneUp-Utilities-2007/3000-2086_4-10629494.html

when it's installed run "1-click" maintenance a few times until it stops finding errors

and make sure you have done ALL the windows updates as it tells you at the end of post 4 of that malware removal thread I posted earlier

if you do not have anti virus on the PC then download

    http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#avg-anti-virus-free

    and for a firewall

    http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

if AVG finds anything then you may need to run that in safe mode as well just the once :)

use this to fix the internet connection

    http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

    LSPFix.exe

try the AVG anti Spyware and just spybot then if Ad-Aware will not run, also try removing Ad-Aware and re-installing .Don't Forget that you need to be running in "Safe Mode"

You may need to download and burn the programs on Cd on the other PC/Laptop to get them onto the infected PC.
