  • when was it last used ? Presumably a record is kept of every time it is used at a checkpoint.

what has he actually allegedly taken? Whats the 'it'?

It's a handheld portable electronic sensor/ electronic data collector which is activated at each checkpoint used for logging the rounds of employees. It helps ensure that the employee makes his or her appointed rounds at the correct intervals
The employee carries the device which is activated at each checkpoint when they scan it against the barcode.
The data collector stores the serial number of the checkpoint with the date and time, that information is downloaded from the collector to a computer where the checkpoint's serial number will have an assigned location.

I would ask for the police to get involved as I would want to know what time the devise was last scanned, which the company should have unless the supervisor didn't download the data.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun
  • Security guards that can't protect the device that logs their success at being security guards.

If it wasn't there on his watch, then they need to look at the watch before him and see when the last clock in was; and take it from there.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

It's almost certainly fallen behind something, or in someone's pocket accidentally. Whether that person would own up is another question!

How about your OH vigorously defends their innocence pointing out that it is more likely dropped, lost, in a washing machine or something and certainly not with him. He could also suggest if a piece of kit like this is so critical perhaps they can implement a signing out formal handover procedure for the whole kit - walkie talkie, duty mobile phone, torch, watchman, logbook, confirmed and agreed handover time etc so it is always absolutely clear whose responsibility everything is at any moment. Until the incoming shift signs for everything, it is the responsibility of the outgoing shift, supervisor or not.
  • They should know when it was last downloaded I would say that would be the starting point.

Do any of the security guards work on more than one site?

Did your other half get on with the supervisor prior to this?

I would say do not accept liability for something he hasn't done. Being a security guard it could have consequences later on. I would suggest they have a more robust procedure.

no they all only work at this one site.
prior to this my oh had been called a p**i b*****d by one of the guy who then broke into my oh locker as my oh complained about the racism, this guy is good friends with the supervisor, and this guy did the last night shift prior to oh starting nights.
no action was taken against the other guy for breaking into oh locker as there was no evidence, but then why are they trying to take action against oh when theres no evidence this time either?

my oh is the only security guard ther-out of 3 others who is not friends with the supervisor and did not know the supervisor before taking on this role.
  • thankyou all for the advice, we have decided that we will fight this and wont take responsiblity for something that is not his fault, like someone else said accepting liability may cause problems in the future....
