Wifes screen has been smashed by falling masonry. £75 excess. If I chose this route, will it reflect in increased premium in future?

Waiting on a local independant coming back with a cash quote.

It usually wont affect the NCD but it may affect the premium with some insurers.

And you need to declare it for 5 years.

We have 4 cars, I take it this may have to be declared for each individual policy then?

    Yes.

Do some dummy quotes online with and without the claim and see what difference it makes to the premiums.

If it is just for the windscreen with no other damage then it should be treated as a windscreen claim only.

I havent or have ever declared any windscreen claims in the whole time I have been driving as when the broker has asked about any losses they always say to exclude windscreen claims.

If you deal with the same broker, then they will have to stand by this advice, and deal with any fallout you ever get.

Windscreen claims are losses and do need to be disclosed.

There are lots of posts here (esp on the insurance forum) and across the net from people who have been (expensively) caught out when non disclosure of windscreen claims has come to light.

I think I have made on average 1 windscreen claim every 2 years.

Won't be going anywhere near the insurance in this case. If necessary I can source a s/hand one and fit it myself, but that will be a last resort.

What, find a secondhand windscreen and fit yourself......I would just get it done on the insurance and pay the £80 excess or whatever it is.

The chances of finding a secondhand windscreen and fitting it and it not cracking are medium to slim.
