New Barclaycard credit agreement repeatedly goes missing

Applied for new barclaycard CC to help pay for forthcoming private medical treatment in late november by post. Credit check was done early december. Waited but not documentation arrived. Rang up, operative confirmed application, said provisionally accepted but waiting for returned signed credit agreement were . Checked address details which were correct and said would send out a replacement. To cut a long story short, this has happened 7 times and is now with their complaints department. Their solution is to cancel the application and re-apply from scratch. My problem is that my credit file is not now as good as it was in early december due to having used up pretty much all available credit (had to find £4.5k from other cards and overdrafts) and they would need to do another check. They wont guarntee it will go through and if it declines then only makes the sitution worse. Apparently it is not possible to process these things manually. What should I do???

  • Barclaycard is famous (infamous) for reneging on CC agreements even after all documents have been exchanged. It appears, that only after return of the signed form, the underwriters make more stringent checks to decide whether or not you will be given a card and at what limit.

As you have never got beyond a 'provisional agreement', they can pull the plug at any time. Particular as your financial situation has gotten distinctly worse within the last two months.

As the old saying goes: "Don't count your chicken..............!"
  • Yes I understand that, and chickens have not yet been counted.

The current situation is that they are happy for me to have the card. They say the documents have been sent but they have never yet got to me.

get a barclays branch to print it
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • tried that. Told it cant be done.

  • Hd two long conversations with a customer service lady trying to find a solution. She esculated the complaint. Got aletter tody sying they were unable to issue credit agreement due to a "system issue" apologised and would be offering compensation of £35.00. Also would cancel credit check with CRA and invited to re apply but with no guarantee of acceptance. I will do that once search has been removed from equifax and see what happens. Still not too happy as now very short of available funding and if they had told me this two months ago I would have looked elsewhere and organised my life differently
