More to the point, £95 or £145 is largely irrelevant when labour is say £600! That's £695 or £745 and labour is likely to be more....

Labour always costs, how much for a clutch fitted for a Vauxhall Astra?

Bet you don't get much change from £500.

    Or it will be more....

Honda Accord (quotes of last month) for CLUTCH only (without DMF)
Honda £850 special deal all Honda dealers must offer
    Indy £800

Cost of clutch kit £180.90 Inc VAT
    http://www.coxmotorparts.co.uk/genuine-honda-accord-22-diesel-3-piece-clutch-kit0308-p-866.html

    Hence cost of labour £619.10-£659.10

Do I care a great deal if the clutch is £180 or £80.... not overly...

Lots of other people "get them" too, there's a certain something about them ;)

I'd say it's the badge - nobody would get excited over a similar age/mileage/price Mondeo...
And that my son, is how to waft a towel!
  • I'm six months into running a Saab 900 (84A) as a 2nd car, so I'd say drop the money down to £5k, enjoy the car for 3 yrs then see how you feel. Saabs are special.

I've had a few SAABs in my time, I have two now and I'd happily have another but there's no way I'd be paying £10k for one these days.

    Not for £10,000

Undoubtably great value if everything goes OK ... so if you get a £3000 Saab of similar spec to a £4000 Mondeo I think good buy... but
The uncertainty of parts is one thing for a £3000 car and another for a £10,000 one.

    I agree with every word.

The parts availability isn't that bad, but there's some bits you just can't get at all, not a bit, in the slightest.

Don't even think about a last shape 9-5 if there's a chance you'll ever need body parts.
Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Ive had a Honda clutch fitted for under 200. Is the accord especially difficult or have prices risen that much recently

The Accord is a pain because the whole steering rack has to come off. I tried several local quotes and other than Mr. Clutch everything was around £800 incl/ parts.

However, having said that the Accord got 111,000 out of the first clutch and then another 70k until the DMF started to go . I paid 1050 eventually for clutch + DMF. Hence I would obviously preferred not to have paid but equally there is no reason not to get another 100,000 from them.

Back on the Saab.... same thing, if you pay a lot to change the clutch at a decent milage then why change it... I understand the fact people then panic a bit 'how much will it start costing' but the answer in most cases is no more than the car you replace it with.
