If you are a low user and with Ebico or similar, the recommendations have to be worked out manually, because of mostly being in the first tier and not getting the advantage of the lower rate.
This comparison site and also energyhelpline are of no use other than as a broad view.0 -

Like I said on another thread, doing the comparison is just the start of the mission! You really do need to look at the various T&Cs attached to each tariff on that list of cheapest tariffs for your usage. it's an absolute minefield out there, it really is. Far too simplistic to simply sign up blindly with what comes at the top of the list imo.0 -
i first joined this site in 2005 and hardly ever come on (silly me ) but now im on a mission to get sorted and have so far spent 3 hours !! getting no where (
apart from which is a good thing that sparks wont be getting my custom ,and that i need to phone my current provider for more details . martin makes this look so easy on his tv show , they dont sit for hours blindly going insane .0 -

The first thing you need to do is get your last 12 months usage figures from your present supplier; simply putting the DD amount in (like I suspect many who are using comparison sites/the MSE site do) basically means there is every chance the results will be slightly inaccurate in the best case scenario and useless in the worst case scenario. Come back on here with the info and us usual suspects will be only too happy to help you through the minefield0 -
thanks i will come back later armed and ready with facts and figures .will need to phone eon tomorrow as i will have only been with them a year today . and inherited them when i moved in to property.0

MSE should insist on annual kwh consumption figures only. Monthly payments are generally to high or low and can include debt payment.0

I agree and suggested the exact same thing on the day the club was launched. The problem with DD amounts is it will in most cases give inaccurate results on switching sites but in the case of the MSE Energy Club it actually goes a step further - it would make all the subsequent recommendations in the future based on an initial inaccurate result.0 -
I followed all the MSE advice on switching last September and switched from British Gas to the cheapests fixed deal - Scottish Power Fixed May 2014 and it does seem to be cheaper so far. Having just joined the Cheap Energy club it tells me there are a host of supposedly cheaper deals including British Gas!
Has anyone else had this experience? I am not sure what to do now.0 -

How much cheaper are the other tariffs?
Are those other tariffs fixed (and if not would you be happy to be on a variable tariff)?0
